Essential Duties:
•Controls the operation of electric induction and resistance furnaces to melt and various non-ferrous alloys
•Maintains complete control of furnace operation at all times
•This encounters programming the furnace control panel and has the ability to read and interpret various gauges, recorder, and instrumentation on the control panel
•Maintains eye control of furnace, bath level and appropriate timing to add additional charges to the furnace
•Removes slag from furnace
•May assist charge make-up person
•Assists iron transporter in tilting furnace to ascertain correct metal weights in various ladles
•Maintains chemistry desired elements in the melt as per outlined by melting supervisor
•Checks furnace temperature and pours chemistry coupons
•Works on weekends to center furnace linings, installs linings, or patch lining.
•May operate push button crane and discharge the charge make-up into the furnace
•Reports all equipment malfunctions to the maintenance department
•Regulates the temperature of the furnace and charges a mixture of gates, scrap and ingot in the correct proportions and of the correct alloy
•Adds the necessary master alloys to each heat
•Removes slag from molten metal
•Pours molten metal from furnace when metal is at proper pouring temperature
•Records temperature and treatment additions for quality control requirements
•Advise supervisor of any problem with jobs or equipment
•Performs housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe work environment
•Perform any and all other job related tasks as assigned
