Short-Range Planner / Drill & Blast Planner / Survey

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Mining EIT to join our team at Coal Valley. The successful candidate will work closely with team members and operations personnel to support mine operations. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the mining industry, with a focus on operational excellence and environmental stewardship. The Junior Mining EIT will get exposure to Short-Range Mine Planning, Drill & Blast Design and Execution, as well as supporting the Surveying needs of Coal Valley.
· Develop and update Short Range Mine Plans (24 hours to 1 Week look ahead) evaluating conditions in the field, incorporating equipment availability, material volumes, and considering coal delivery required to meet sales schedules
· Produce drill and blast plans to support the Short Range Plan, notifying relevant departments of blasting activities, and estimating explosive requirements (type and volume)
· Participate in Daily Line-ups, and field tours with Supervision
· Surveying in-pit as required: Drill Patterns, Toe / Crest Lines, Ramps, Dumps etc.
· Support the development of Mid to Long Range Plans
· Support Mine Operations Projects as required (Design, Coordination, Close-out etc.)
· Key point of contact for engineering related support during off-hours and weekends (when on shift)
· Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
· Registered or are immediately eligible for membership with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGA)
· 0-2+ years of experience in the mining industry (internships or co-op experience considered an asset).
· Proficiency in mining software such as Vulcan, AutoCAD, Minestar Terrain, 3D Dig, ShotPlus etc.
· Strong computer skills; experience with Microsoft Office suite of programs is essential
· Familiar with various legislation that governs the mining industry in Alberta and Canada
· Willingness to work in remote locations and adapt to varying field conditions.
· Coal Valley Mine – 70km South of Edson, AB
· Typical Shift: 8 Days on 6 Days off (Wednesday to Wednesday)
· Transportation from Edson to and from Coal Valley provided
· Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
