As a Process Safety Management Specialist / Engineer, you will collaborate with a dedicated team of professionals specializing in PSM solutions and service delivery. Your work will adhere to industry standards and best practices. The responsibilities will encompass program / policy / procedure development and assessment to industry standards and best practices.

Job Overview

We are seeking a talented and experienced Process Safety Management (PSM) Specialist / Engineer with 5-10 years of expertise (direct or indirect experience working with PSM facilities and programs) to join our dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to work with a top-tier consulting group that prioritizes safety, compliance, and innovation. The PSM Specialist / Engineer will play a critical role in helping our clients achieve operational excellence by designing, implementing, and enhancing PSM programs that safeguard people, assets, and the environment. Key Responsibilities

As a PSM Specialist / Engineer at Cognascents, you will engage in a wide range of consulting tasks, including but not limited to:

PSM Program Development: Collaborate with clients to design and implement comprehensive PSM programs tailored to their specific needs, ensuring alignment with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 and industry best practices. PSM work also extends to international clients and country-specific governing regulations (e.g., CSA Z767-17).
Gap Analysis: Conduct thorough evaluations of existing PSM programs to identify deficiencies, risks, and opportunities for improvement, delivering actionable roadmaps for enhancement.
Process Hazard Analysis (PHA): Facilitate PHAs (e.g., HAZOP, What-If, LOPA) to identify and assess potential process safety hazards, providing expert recommendations for risk mitigation.
Compliance Audits: Perform PSM and Risk Management Plan (RMP) compliance audits, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and internal policies, and delivering detailed reports with practical solutions.
Training Development & Delivery: Design and deliver customized PSM awareness and facility-specific training programs to enhance employee competency and regulatory compliance.
Management of Change (MOC) Support: Assist clients in implementing robust MOC processes to evaluate and mitigate risks associated with operational changes.
Client Collaboration: Serve as a client-facing expert, building strong relationships and providing ongoing support to address evolving PSM needs.

Required Qualifications & Credentials

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Occupational Safety, or a related technical field.
Experience: 5-10 years of progressive experience in process safety management, preferably within the chemicals, oil and gas, or industrial sectors.
Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119), EPA RMP, and related industry standards (e.g., NFPA, ANSI).
Technical Skills: Proficiency in PHA facilitation (HAZOP, LOPA).
Certifications: Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Process Safety Professional certification is highly desirable.
Travel: Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time, depending on project needs.
Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with PSM-related software tools (e.g., PHA-Pro, PHAST).
On-Boarding Essentials: To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements: (1) Legal eligibility to work in the United States, (2) successful completion of required drug and alcohol screening, and (3) proficiency in written and spoken English.
