Project Description:
This position will support the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. This scope of service in Sentinel’s current Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase focuses on the ground infrastructure component of the program.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will plan, develop, design, coordinate, and review architectural work on large projects with unique requirements. You will prepare discipline estimates and work plans, review and approve design documents, interpret regulations, and assist with performance reporting. Your recommendations for resolving complex issues will help ensure client satisfaction with a project’s architectural aspects.
In this role as Senior Architect, you will support the design for the project. This will entail originating/checking specifications, building code analyses, material requisitions, and technical studies or reports. Additionally, checking of design drawings and review and coordination of vendor information and leading technical discussions and constructability reviews. #LI-SF1
Major Responsibilities:
•Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the architectural work to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications
•Analyzes problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions
•Analyzes and reports on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and/or difficult coordination requirements
•Prepares or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs for proposals, forecasts, and change orders
•Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals
•Prepares letters to vendors and clients
•Plans, coordinates, or prepares equipment, work and material specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations
•Coordinates architectural efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups
•Prepares procurement and subcontract requisition documents and performs associated technical bid evaluations with award recommendations
•When delegated, provides guidance to other architectural personnel for specific tasks or project-subgroups
•Evaluates, selects, and applies standard Architectural methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgement in making adaptations and modifications
•Designs facility layouts, and architectural details
•Performs building code analyses and compliance, 3D modeling and renderings
•Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction
•Assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs for proposals, forecasts, and change orders
•Coordinates architectural efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups
•Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, renderings, reports, or proposals
•Provides technical assistance to other Architectural personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards
•Assists in constructability reviews
•Prepares project designs and plans using 3D modeling software
•Supports construction by dispositioning field change requests and nonconformance reports
•Acts as a mentor or coach for subordinate architects and designers
•Leads and/or participates in technical discussions with client, suppliers, construction, etc.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
•Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience without a bachelor’s degree.
•Prior experience in facility design/layout and details, building code analyses, Revit modeling and renderings
•Experience with CADD applications, such as Revit
•Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
•Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions and construction methods
•Understands work processes of other disciplines and departments on projects
•Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally
•Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client
Preferred Qualifications:
•Master’s degree in Architecture
•Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense (DOD)
•Experience with procurement automation tools
•Thorough knowledge of developing CSI Masterformat specifications, or SpecsIntact
•Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide
