SUMMARY

Kier + Wright is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior civil engineer to join our growing water department. This is an excellent chance to gain experience working on a broad range of water resources engineering projects with a primary focus in water, recycled water, wastewater systems, and permitting through design.


RESPONSIBILITIES


Proposals


Lead marketing and business development efforts including writing water resources sections of proposals, participating in client interviews and supporting negotiations for project contracts.*


Project Management


Oversee project management for stormwater and watershed master planning, NPDES MS4 programmatic support, and capital improvement projects.* Manage client relationships and subconsultant contracts.* Analyze proposed designs for reliability, constructability, and cost-effectiveness.*


Staff Management


Mentor junior staff through technical issues and professional development*


Technical


Permitting new water, recycled water and wastewater systems and facilities.* Develop design standards and prepare technical reports.* Lead civil, hydrologic, and hydraulic engineering analyses for hydraulic structures and facilities, including stormwater management ponds, drainage infrastructure, low impact development features, and green infrastructure.* Prepare technical studies, design reports, and stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPP).*


EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field* 10-15 years of experience* Extensive experience using stormwater modeling software, including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and StormCAD. Knowledge of WaterCAD preferred.* Proficiency in CAD and Bluebeam.* Preferred experience with various FEMA LOMC submittals and coordination* Professional Engineering (PE) license*

Specialty Skills


Familiarity with the project entitlement process, including CEQA, NEPA, specific plans, water supply assessments, and due diligence efforts.
Design experience in water + wastewater treatment, wells, storage tanks, pump stations, and lift stations.
Proficiency in hydraulic and sewer system modeling
Strong understanding and implementation of hydrologic and hydraulic principles such as the Rational Method, Unit Hydrograph Methods, and Manning’s Equation.
Familiarity with the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act and preparation of Groundwater Sustainability Plans.
Understanding the interplay between water, wastewater, and stormwater to develop holistic design solutions.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR WORKING CONDITIONS

Prolonged periods of sitting (up to 8 hours a day for office staff)
Interacting with technology (computer, cellphone, etc.)
Ability to lift and/or carry items ( up to 20 lbs.)
Prolonged periods of standing/walking (field checks)
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (field checks)
Occasional travel e.g. driving to offices, jobsites, client meetings, etc.
