GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Operation of a fork truck.
SCHEDULE: Monday - Wednesday (6 am -6 pm)
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES: A typical day consists of the following tasks.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion to include: constant lifting, bending, twisting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, stooping, squatting, walking, reaching, climbing, standing, and the ability to maintain one's balance while performing the required work tasks. Must be able to work 12 hours per day while wearing steel-toed work boots. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires frequent unassisted lifting of a variety of objects from various positions, which range in weight from 5 to 50 pounds with an average weight of 30 pounds. Fork Truck Operator is required to frequently climb in and out of fork truck during their 12-hour work shift. Utilizes a variety of hand positions to work equipment controls. Job has the potential of being fast paced and the ability to deal with stress is essential. Due to gravel/rock rough terrain and uneven surfaces that the fork truck must travel on, the operator is often jarred and bounced about; however, the operator is required to wear seat belt.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: The Forklift Operator works in an outdoor, yard environment consisting of loose rock/gravel, rough terrain and uneven surfaces. Due to rock/gravel surfaces, the air is very dusty in work environment. Employees experience regular exposure to various outside temperatures, including extreme heat in
the summer and extreme cold in winter. Employees are required to wear Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) to include noise/hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields, and steel-toed work shoes.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to deal with stress and get along with co-workers and supervisors. Ability to read and speak English is preferred. Mathematical skills equivalent to high school level required. Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers. Regular attendance at work and punctuality are essential job functions.
Education: High school education or equivalent is preferred.
Equipment: After powered industrial truck certification, must be able to operate a variety of industrial equipment safely and efficiently.
HOURS: Hours of work may vary in accordance with deadlines and production requirements.
