We are hiring two (2) full-time temporary Summer Student (Summer Utility Worker) positions working out of Edmonton, Alberta.

Reporting to the Facilities Maintenance Foreman, the Summer Student (Summer Utility Worker) position is responsible for performing manual tasks related to the maintenance, repair and improvements of the Edmonton Water Treatment Plant’s infrastructure in accordance with codes, company procedures, client specifications and industry standards in work settings identified by EPCOR Water Services.

What you’d be responsible for

The Summer Utility Worker is accountable for, but not limited to:

•

Developing and implementing safe work plans, hazard assessments, and tailgate talks to ensure worker safety.

•

Performing specific maintenance duties, including:

+ Lighting + Painting + Lubrication + Grounds maintenance + Clarifier cleaning + Reservoir/clarifier isolation, washing, and disinfecting.

•

Other related duties as required.

What’s required to be successful

Knowledge/Training/Education

•

Grade 12 or G.E.D. supplemented with General Utility related coursework,

•

Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License (with 6 demerits or less). A Driver Abstract will be required.

•

Must be enrolled in a post-secondary program, returning to school in September 2025.

•
Technical Skills

•

Solid background in mechanical aptitude,

•

Basic understanding of computer software.

Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and is based on a combination of factors as outlined in the CA that may be found online.

Hours of work: 80 hours bi-weekly Monday to Friday

Please note the following information:

A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)

If you are considered for the position, clearance on all applicable background checks (which may include criminal, identity, educational, and/or credit) and professional reference checks are required. Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.

A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.

•

To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.

•

Prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file.
