JOB SUMMARY: This position involves performing a variety of welding tasks across four skill levels, ranging from precision sanitary TIG welding to general welding support. Welders in this role are responsible for interpreting blueprints, maintaining high-quality standards, adhering to safety regulations, and contributing to the success of the fabrication team. The role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors.
Welding Tiers
· Tier 4: Precision TIG Welder (Sanitary & Sheet Metal Specialist)
•Perform sanitary TIG welding and purge welding techniques.
•Polish and grind sanitary welds to meet smooth surface standards.
•TIG weld aluminum with precision and cleanliness.
•Fabricate and assemble 18GA to 22GA sheet metal components.
•Maintain high-quality workmanship with minimal rework.
· Tier 3: Advanced Certified Welder (Fabrication Trainer)
•Perform certified welding per D1.1 standards.
•TIG and MIG weld aluminum and stainless steel with precision.
•Read and interpret complex blueprints and project specifications.
•Fabricate and assemble 14GA-16GA sheet metal components.
•Train and mentor junior welders to build skills and confidence.
•Ensure projects meet timelines and quality standards.
· Tier 2: Heavy Fabrication Welder
•Perform SMAW, FCAW, and basic TIG welding.
•Fabricate and assemble components using 12GA and thicker materials.
•Operate rolling and bending equipment for forming metal parts.
•Ensure welds meet industry standards and project specifications.
•Troubleshoot fabrication challenges and recommend solutions.
· Tier 1: General Welder (Production Support)
•MIG weld carbon steel components with accuracy.
•Read and interpret basic blueprints for production projects.
•Deburr, clean, and prepare parts for final assembly.
•Maintain and perform basic repairs on welding equipment.
•Verify materials against specifications and standards.
•Follow and enforce safety regulations in all operations.
•Log hours and project details accurately for tracking.
Key Responsibilities
•Perform welding processes such as MIG, TIG, Stick, or Flux-Cored on various metals, including steel, aluminum, and stainless steel, according to job specifications.
•Set up welding machines and adjust parameters such as voltage, amperage, and travel speed based on material thickness and type.
•Operate hand-held welding tools and equipment safely and efficiently, following all safety protocols and guidelines.
•Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on welding equipment, including cleaning and replacing worn parts.
Blueprint Interpretation
•Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to determine required welds, dimensions, and materials.
•Collaborate with engineers and production staff to clarify any ambiguities in specifications or design documents.
Quality Control
•Conduct first-article inspections and in-process quality checks to ensure parts meet strict tolerances using precision measuring tools such as calipers, protractors, and gauges.
•Identify defects or irregularities and make proper adjustments or corrections as needed to ensure quality standards are maintained.
•Collaborate with the quality control department for final inspections and to resolve any dimensions, tolerances, or quality issues.
Safety and Compliance:
•Follow all safety procedures and wear required safety gear (safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection) and maintain situational awareness to identify and mitigate hazards.
•Maintain a clean and organized work environment to prevent accidents and ensure efficient operations.
•Optimize machining processes to improve production efficiency while maintaining quality standards.
Documentation and Reporting:
•Log into all jobs via Global Shop when working on work orders to maintain accurate tracking of labor and materials used.
•Maintain accurate records of production, including completed work orders, quality documents, and quantities produced.
•Report any equipment malfunctions, material shortages, or production delays to the supervisor promptly.
•Assist in documenting welding procedures and techniques for future reference.
Continuous Improvement
•Actively participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities, including workshops, seminars, and certification programs to enhance job-related skills and knowledge, as required.
•Suggest improvements to the manufacturing process or machine operations to increase productivity and quality.
•Perform all other duties as assigned or required to support the team's goals and maintain efficient operations.
Qualifications
•Education and Experience:
•High School Diploma or GED required.
•Technical training or certification in welding preferred (e.g., AWS certification).
•Minimum of 1-3 years of welding experience in a fabrication shop or similar environment.
•Frequently lift and carry materials weighing 25-50 pounds and perform tasks like standing, walking, bending, and crouching for 8-10 hours per day.
•Possess strong hand-eye coordination, quick reflexes, and good depth perception for operating machinery, forklifts, and overhead cranes safely.
•Work comfortably in loud, vibration-prone environments with varying temperatures.
