PURPOSE:The purpose of the Assistant Accountant is to handle all accounting functions associated with the collection of sanitation fees.



ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Prepare a daily spreadsheet of landfill money collected at DES, by banks, bank drafts,


and electronic payments.


2. Keep records of daily landfill reports and voids in a spreadsheet form.


3. Run daily Aged Accounts Receivable Report for Dickson County Solid Waste and email it


daily.


4. Check landfill deposits by cashiers against daily collections totals shown on reports.


5. Post landfill cash corrections and adjustments to daily spreadsheet.


6. Keep records of any billing adjustments to landfill accounts.



7. Make vouchers for the General Ledger.


8. Balance all bank statements associated with landfill collections.


9. Prepare a monthly invoice to the county landfill for mailing of sanitation bills. Prepare

An invoice for county’s share of audit fees and submit it to the county for approval and


payment.


10. Run End of Month Reports related to landfill accounts and send them to Dickson County

Solid Waste at the end of each month.



SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Posting data to the General Ledger and Cash Receipts books and assigning general ledger accounts.
Prepare a daily Master Posting of batches in the DFMS system.
Prepare a report and complete a daily balancing spreadsheet for DFMS.
Update monthly budget information on the accounting budget spreadsheet.
Review collection payments received from Dickson County Solid Waste to verify they were put on correct accounts and send a posting report back to Dickson County Solid Waste.
Prepare and print Purchasing Request Forms for Accounting, Warehouse and Business Offices as needed.
Assist with issuing work orders, as needed.
Other duties as assigned by management.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


High School Diploma/ GED required. An associated degree in accounting is preferred with two years of accounting experience, preferably in an electrical utility environment or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties.

Ability to effectively communicate with customers, other DES employees and the general public.

Must be able to maintain composure during difficult situations to discuss and resolve issues and maintain open communications to achieve DES goals and objectives.

Willing to work with all employees in the best interest of the utility and to accept changes in work programs and patterns to keep pace with changing times.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Able to work 8-hour shifts or longer if emergency situations require.
Must be able to work under any type of weather conditions.
Must be skilled in the application of first aid methods.
Must be able to follow safe and efficient work practices.
Must possess visual acuity and manual dexterity as well as the ability to listen and communicate orally.



LICENSEs AND CERTIFICATIONS:


1.Must possess at the time of employment a valid Class D Driver License allowing legal

operation of a motor vehicle in Tennessee. Maintaining the Class D or equivalent license is a


continuing condition of employment.

2.Must maintain at the time of employment or obtain at a time designated by DES, a valid

certification of proficiency in adult CPR, first aid, and AED.
