I. JOB IDENTIFICATION


Title: Auxiliary Operator- AGE


Reports to: Shift Supervisor


Department: Operations


II. PURPOSE OF POSITION

Responsible for performing equipment operating and record keeping duties on moderately complex systems, such as ash, fuel handling, water treatment and pollution systems within established procedures. Responsibilities of this role will be to operate, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain all mechanical, I/C, and electrical equipment as required to support plant operations and maximize asset value.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ensure continuous operation of fuel and ash systems (i.e., clean chutes, conveyor belts, pump strainers, etc.)

2. Perform chemical tests on all plant water systems including wastewater and implement corrective actions within established procedures. And housekeeping as may be needed in order to support facility demands.

3. Operate assigned distributed control systems; operate valves and equipment as physically necessary.

4. Maintain assign systems to ensure proper operations; perform routine and preventative equipment maintenance, safety check and inspections.

5. Take measurements and readings and compare with standards; implement appropriate corrective actions.


6. Inspect and monitor environmental equipment.

7. Log equipment operating data accurately and timely.

8. Respond to alarms in a timely manner. Operate firefighting equipment as necessary. Support first aid and CPR efforts as required.


9. Receive fuel as directed.

10. Reclaim fuel as necessary to support fuel yard activities.

11. Maintain a safe work environment through job planning, housekeeping and identification and correction of hazards. Perform maintenance and repair work on plant equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, fans, turbines, bearings, boilers, pipe systems, valves, and limit torque operators. (Disassembly, part repair or replacement, assembly)

12. Operates monitors and maintains turbines, generators, pumps, scrubber plants, boilers, motors, combustion turbines and associated auxiliary equipment.

13. Trains other employees in performing preventive maintenance and routine equipment service activities.

14. Leads equipment or system problem identification and recommends solutions.

15. Develops operating procedures for plant equipment to ensure consistent and safe operation.

16. Performs all work during an assigned shift in a safe, continuous, and efficient manner while maintaining environmental and housekeeping standards within federal, state, and local guidelines.

17. Performs work per Work Management processes and ensures safety using equipment Tag out process.


18. Assists in requisitioning parts and supplies.

19. Periodic use of Heavy Equipment; support Fuel Yard Operators

20. Perform assigned duties in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

21. Perform other comparable and related duties, as required.


IV. SKILL/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

1. Education – High school plus trades training or equivalent.

a. Associate degree in Power Plant Technology, Engineering Technology, or Electronics OR HS Diploma with minimum of 18 months of trade or technical training in Power Plant Technology preferred.


2. Experience – one to three years.

3. Judgment – Requires the use of some judgment to work from detailed instructions or prescribed routines, and to make minor decisions.

4. Skill/Knowledge – Thorough knowledge of all plant systems, established procedures and measurement standards.

5. Availability for rotating shift work and overtime as required.

6. Ability to provide clear oral and written communication skills as well as effectively communicate with and take direction from other plant personnel/supervisors.

7. Ability to use analytical process in identifying and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions.

8. Capable of managing critical events and prioritizing an emergency, providing clear direction in operational, safety, and environmental tasks.

9. Ability to work in a power plant environment that includes climbing and walking long distances.

10. Ability to work in closed quarters and confined spaces; climb ladders and structures; lift and carry up to 50 pounds; and tolerate heights and high temperatures.

11. Thorough understanding of the Auxiliary Operator and Fuel Handler duties and responsibilities and capable of standing watch in any of these subsidiary positions.


12. Basic computer skills


13. Understanding of power plant prints


14. Valid driver's license

15. Perform assigned duties in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.


16. Control Room Experience Preferred

17. Successfully complete the training requirements and time in job requirements for the position including previously passing the EEI TECH test, (if Applicable)

I. Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances. (F)

J. Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force to thrust forward, downward or outward. (F)

K. Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. (O)

L. Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Requires substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles. (O)

M. Fingering: Picking, pinching typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling. (O)

N. Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. (O)

O. Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. (F)

P. Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds with no less than a 40 db loss at 500 Hz, 1000 Hz and 2000 Hz with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machined parts. (F)


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 70 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

A. The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes.
