About This Job

Kaukauna Utilities is looking for a detail-oriented and organized Billing Specialist to join our Billing and Customer Service Team. This role handles utility billing and customer service tasks, including maintaining customer accounts, monitoring AMI electric and water meters, preparing bills and adjustments, and managing accounts receivable and collections.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Work involves preparation and adjustment of monthly utility bills and accounts receivable related functions, preparation of delinquent notices, as well as answering questions from customers regarding account balances, move in/move outs, payment arrangements, and billing concerns.

Process customer bills from meter readings to posting of billing journals. With an understanding of customer class, rate tariffs and the usage/time schedule used for billing.

Monitor and expedite the collection of delinquent accounts using various methods of customer contact.

Process applications for service from customers, including setting up new accounts.

Respond to customer questions, complaints, billing concerns, real estate inquiries and assistance with the Utility's online customer portal and outage management notifications.

Maintain the customer database through routine database checks, address changes, refunds, write offs, balance transfers, and meter exchanges.

Generate electric and water disconnections and reconnections. Follow-up on disconnected properties.

Process electric and water conservation rebates, optional Time-of-Day rate applications, renewable energy applications, mid-month and month-end reports.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Associate degree in Accounting.

One to two years of experience in accounting application, including a computerized accounting system, with a working knowledge of computerized spreadsheets and word processing programs; OR any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
