Job Description


General Objectives:

Reporting to the drill and blast supervisor, the blaster typically works a 4-day, 10-hour schedule. Schedule may change at times to accommodate the needs of mine operations. The blaster may load explosives in blast holes by hand, or direct a bulk explosives truck to load holes. The blaster will be responsible to tie-in the pattern by connecting electrical wires, detonating cords into series. The blaster is responsible for connecting to a blasting machine and for detonating the charges. The blaster partners with the contracted explosives company and the mine-site employees to coordinate the strategic support for the needs of the mine to operate in an effective, efficient and safe manner.


Key Areas Of Responsibilities & Duties

The key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

Create and maintain a strong safety culture
Promote and consistently implement company safety policies
Maintain detailed and accurate shift records
Perform work area housekeeping duties
Maintain a safe work area, free of any hazards
Perform Field Level Risk Assessments
Complete proper pre-op inspection on all equipment
Properly place barricades delineating blast site
Operate all equipment within the drill and blast patterns in a safe manner
Perform all duties according to Marigold Standard Operating Procedures
Perform other duties as required


Required Skills

Clear understanding and willingness to observe and practice company standard operating procedures and policies
Unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship, including immediately reporting and mitigating spills and other environmental impacts
Must be able to communicate effectively, in English, using all standard forms of business communication
Must be able to work in a team oriented environment in strenuous physical conditions outdoors
Must be able to work professionally with other employees in all situations
Must be able to work in diverse weather conditions
Must be able to lift 30-50 lbs.
Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
A strong safety background is required
Overtime may be required at times due to workload needs
Basic Math skills required
Basic computer skills required


Required Experience

Prior blasting experience preferred
Experience with electronic initiation systems is preferred
Experience with or the ability to learn blast design programs.
Must have (or be able to pass) an Employee Possessor background check via BATFE.
