Reporting to the drill and blast supervisor, the blaster typically works a 4-day, 10-hour schedule. Schedule may change at times to accommodate the needs of mine operations. The blaster may load explosives in blast holes by hand, or direct a bulk explosives truck to load holes. The blaster will be responsible to tie-in the pattern by connecting electrical wires, detonating cords into series. The blaster is responsible for connecting to a blasting machine and for detonating the charges. The blaster partners with the contracted explosives company and the mine-site employees to coordinate the strategic support for the needs of the mine to operate in an effective, efficient and safe manner.
