We are currently seeking an Intermediate and Senior Civil Designer(s) to join our dynamic team. As an integral member of the team, you will have the opportunity to deliver civil design and drafting services and work with other designers in the development and review of various engineering drawings. Your pride in supporting engineers in producing high quality, practical designs from concept through to commissioning will be a vital part of this diverse and interesting position. Your desire to complete projects as accurately and as efficiently as possible will lead to opportunities to manage a small group of designers.
Responsibilities:
•Assist engineers in executing engineering tasks and works in accordance with established design and drafting protocols.
•Prepare 3D models and design drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
•Produce a variety of project drawings including grading plan and sections, drainage plan and details, roadway alignment, profile and sections, civil design details as per engineer's markup or instruction.
•Interpret and carry out creative ideas proposed by other engineers or designers.
•Follow company standards and procedures including checking drawings.
•Participate in project design and model review meetings.
•Creates and modifies drawings based on sketches, templates, previous designs, or 3D models.
•Collects, organizes, and evaluates data from various sources (i.e. previous designs, studies, surveys, and other references).
•Interprets and carries out creative ideas independently or as proposed by other senior specialists, designers, or engineers.
•Attend internal training lessons.
•Prepare technical drawing packages for submission to various external parties.
•Produces and maintains discipline specific drawing sets.
•Conducts clash detection analysis.
•Prepare material take-offs.
•May act as a coordinator:
+ Mentor junior designers / drafters.
+ Coordinate tasks and work schedules to achieve the project objectives.
+ Work with different disciplines to resolve design problems, discuss project criteria, and facilitate smooth project coordination.
+ Provide recommendations and implement design tools to improve drafting efficiencies.
Skills and Qualifications:
•Post-secondary education with technical diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction, CAD/CADD, Design/Drafting, and/or Applied Sciences
•Intermediate: 4+ years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of studies
•Senior: 8+ years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of studies
•Familiarity with various computer aided design and drafting (CADD) software, including Autodesk, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Autoturn.
•Ability to perform 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
•Familiarity with design and drafting of grading, drainage, roadway, and other civil components.
•Experience with Microsoft Office products is preferred.
•Valid technical software vendor certification is preferred, including Autodesk AutoCAD Certified User or Professional, Autodesk Certified Professional in AutoCAD for Design and Drafting.
•Registered Graduate Technologist and Technician (GradTech) with Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC (ASTTBC) preferred.
•Site survey experience would be an asset.
•Experience with Hexagon CADWorx Structure, or ESRI ArcGIS would be an asset.
•Self-motivated with good communication skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
•Ability to work independently in accordance with established drafting protocols.
•Positive, creative, and with a continuous learning mindset.
•Basic familiarity and understanding of engineering codes and standards.
Salary is based on an average of 37.5 hours a week. The competitive salary will be based on skills and experience.
Estimated range is between $64,000-81,000+/annually
