Position Summary:
Reporting to the Operations Finance Manager, the Accountant - Cost is responsible for supporting refinery operations on budget development, cost tracking and performance/variance reporting. The Accountant - Cost is a key member of the North West Redwater Partnership (NWR) Finance Department.
Responsibilities:
•Assist finance and operations groups with analysis and support as required in PowerBI, AX Dynamics and Maximo;
•Provides support to the operations group in the monthly budget, actuals and forecast variance analysis of operating and capital costs;
•Develops and standardizes forms that will be used by Operations Management to input budget numbers;
•Assists in the consolidation and preparation of budget materials and ensure consistency and accuracy of data;
•Analyzes current operational metrics and make recommendations to improve accuracy;
•Creates and establishes scorecards relative to department objectives;
•Prepares journal entries for accruals and corrections; provides application support in the use and reporting from Maximo;
•Prepares, creates and tracks AFE’s for capital and non-capital projects; supports the creation and tracking of costs by work order;
•Provides direction and mentorship to Accounts Payable and junior accounting team members;
•All other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
•Understands, creates and maintains a visible commitment to process and personal safety, as well as the safety of others; adheres to NWR’s Core Competencies to drive results and a high performing culture;
•An accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA, CPA) or in the final stages of obtaining a designation; combinations of business education and experience will be considered;
•3-8 years of cost accounting experience in operations at an industrial plant, preferably oil and gas processing;
•Experience using an ERP system, with preference given to experience using Maximo; proficiency in MS Office, including Power BI, with advanced skills utilizing Excel;
•Ability to quickly learn new software systems and procedures is required;
•Must be a team player who is willing to continuously and proactively collaborate, share, and seek information and guidance;
•Must have excellent attention to detail and organizational skills; motivated and energetic with the ability to multi-task;
•Must have a high degree of integrity and be able to deal with confidential information appropriately;
•Ability to analyze and resolve problems in a steady-paced environment, responding to multiple internal and external stakeholders.
