Job Summary
Perform power systems analysis to support Transmission Operations EMS (Energy Management System) Advanced Applications group to support the development of EMS applications that include State Estimator, Power Flow Analysis, Contingency Analysis and Outage Scheduler. Analyze state estimation and power flow data and automate processes.
Perform modeling of various power system devices, including transmission lines, power transformers and generators. Perform network model equivalency analysis of the electrical system using network application software, including Alstom, Siemens, and ABB. Apply numerical analysis techniques for solving large scale non-linear equations.
Provide clear verbal and written explanations of studies and findings to other engineers, system operators, support staff, and various level of management.
Participate in a 24 hour on call rotation to support TOPS Real Time Operations.

What You’ll Do: The Power System Analyst will be responsible for supporting system event analysis using both steady state and dynamic power system tools. This role requires advanced analytical skills to address system-wide concerns, including the ability to solve non-linear equations. The analyst will utilize programming languages such as Python, SQL, and C++ to enhance analysis and modeling capabilities. Experience with power flow tools like PSSE, EMS, and Linear State Estimator is essential for producing compliant model solutions for NERC deliverables. Additionally, the analyst will work with phasor measurement units (PMUs) to analyze oscillations, kernel-based density plots, and oscillography related to system events, ensuring accurate and reliable assessments in a collaborative team environment.
What We’re Looking For:
Has typically acquired 6 or more years of related engineering experience along with a bachelor’s degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET. Or 4 years of related engineering experience along with a master’s degree or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET. Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
Has typically acquired 8 or more years of related engineering experience along with a bachelor’s degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET. Or 6 years of related engineering experience along with a master’s or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET. Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is required for this position unless approval to waive this requirement is given by the organization's EVP.ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
