Weber Basin Water Conservancy District is Northern Utah’s Regional Water Supplier for: treated municipal water, wholesale irrigation water, retail secondary irrigation water, untreated industrial water and groundwater replacement water. We proudly serve the water needs in Davis, Weber, Summit, Morgan and Box Elder counties.

The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Crew Chief, this position is responsible for preventative maintenance, upkeep, and restoration of District water distribution facilities. Perform a variety of tasks including cleaning, paint restoration, part replacement, inspections, condition assessments, and install protective coatings such as epoxy or wax wrap on piping. Work will mainly be done in District culinary and secondary underground pipeline vaults.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS(Not necessarily a comprehensive list.)

Protective coating restoration on pipeline systems and related mechanical appurtenances to include stripping existing coatings and application of new epoxy or wax coating system.
Cleaning and upkeep work on existing vaults, including pumping out, flushing, cleaning, and restoring to a good working condition. Critical to this is coordinating any needed mechanical or electrical maintenance with District staff.
Work with M&I and WSP Departments to inspect facilities and perform feasibility analysis regarding restoration vs replacement. Create a work priority list.
Obtain and maintain appropriate licensure and/or certifications for protective coatings, lead abatement, and coating removals.
Work in confined spaces underground such as vaults and inside pipelines.

NOTE: Essential and other job functions are subject to change depending on District needs and the individual in this position may be required to perform other jobs. Any of the herein-stated requirements and conditions are subject to approval and/or waiver by the General Manager. The regular work schedule is subject to change depending on the District needs for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS(The education and experience requirements for this job may be satisfied by any acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.)

Education: High school graduation or equivalent with courses in industrial arts, mechanics, or general vocational education. Must be at least 18 years of age.

Experience: Prior experience is not required although some experience would be beneficial.

Knowledge: Some knowledge of the types and uses of common hand tools, materials and equipment used in general maintenance, construction, repair and laboring work. Should have some knowledge of basic safety practices. Familiar with paint removal procedures and associated safety standards.

Abilities: Ability to learn the methods, materials and equipment necessary to perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions; ability to certify in appropriate categories needed for paint removal and application; ability to lift at least 50 pounds on a regular basis; ability to perform manual labor for several hours at a time; ability to learn more completely basic safety practices and procedures; ability to follow instructions; ability to work effectively with other District personnel.

Special Qualifications: Must obtain Class A or B, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 6 months of hire and maintain a good driving record. Within a reasonable amount of time, obtain needed training and certifications required for paint removal, lead abatement and protective coating applications. Obtain flag certification and confined space training upon hire.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions all year round. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching and lifting. Talking, hearing and seeing are essential to performing required job functions. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and critical thinking. Daily local travel required in normal course of job performance.
