About the Role:

As a Geological Engineer at Yellowstone Mine, you will play a crucial role in the geological monitoring, analysis and reporting as well geological and survey support in an open pit talc mine. The insights you provide will directly influence the planning and development of mining projects, contributing to the overall success of the operation.


KEY TASKS

Identification of geotechnical issues associated with open pit mining, storage of waste rock, and location of plant facilities at the Yellowstone Mine
Advise management in identifying short and long-term geological and geotechnical planning needs of the organization.
Study and quantify geotechnical risk in slopes and design mitigating solutions. Collect monitoring data throughout the mine site and report potential geotechnical hazards to operations groups.
Operation and management of geotechnical monitoring systems network including radar, inclinometers, vibrating wire piezometers, crack meters and GPS set points.
Analyze and report data from all field systems in monthly and quarterly reports sent to management.
Work with geotechnical consultants on implementing annual projects
Assist in drill program planning and implementation
Assist in logging and splitting core and reverse circulation chips.
Support site blast hole sampling and testing
Assist in understanding key orebody knowledge to support strategic mine planning activities, including geological and structure mapping.
Provide support and feedback for onsite lab mineralogy results and processes.
Implement survey control in the field to ensure strict compliance with mine plan design parameters.
Drone operation and flight processing
Report and develop Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to drive continuous improvement.
Develop and effectively manage capital projects
Communicate effectively with operators, supervisors, management and other mine technical personnel.
Perform other duties and functions as needed


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Geological Engineering, geologic or geotechnical focus preferred.
1-2 years experience preferred, but not required
Working knowledge of various geotechnical monitoring instrumentation devices such as slope monitoring radar systems, time domain reflectometers (TDRs), inclinometers, vibrating wire piezometers (VWPs), and prisms preferred.
Interpersonal and analytical skills
Ability to develop and support spreadsheets and database
Familiarity with software such as AutoCAD, MinePlan 3D or GIS based systems
Experience with mining GPS survey systems

Strong organizational and planning skills. Able to manage multiple and competing priorities and prioritize tasks appropriately. Project management skills desirable.
Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Experience with Microsoft SharePoint is desirable.
