Position Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating a variety of heavy machinery used in surface mining and material movement, including dozers, graders, haul trucks, fuel trucks, and loaders. Operators are expected to maintain productivity and support efficient material handling while following all safety, environmental, and operational protocols.
Essential Job Functions:
•Operate heavy equipment such as dozers, graders, loaders, haul trucks, and fuel trucks in a safe and efficient manner
•Perform daily pre-operation and post-operation inspections and document findings
•Safely load, move, level, push, and stockpile material across various terrains and job sites
•Maintain and monitor assigned equipment, including refueling, greasing, and basic servicing
•Communicate effectively using radios or hand signals to coordinate movement and material flow
•Maintain a clean and safe working environment; immediately report unsafe conditions or malfunctions
•Understand and comply with MSHA regulations, company safety rules, and standard operating procedures
•Perform basic equipment troubleshooting and assist with maintenance when necessary
•Maintain accurate records of work performed and equipment usage when required
•Support additional tasks such as assisting with pit cleanup, site prep, or shutdowns as directed
Work Environment and Schedule:
•Standard work schedule is 10 hours per day, 5 days per week (50 hours minimum)
•Regular overtime and weekend work is required depending on production needs and weather conditions
•Work is performed in outdoor environments with exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, and heavy machinery
Physical Requirements:
•Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, and twist for extended periods
•Frequent exposure to vibration, uneven terrain, and variable weather conditions
•Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. independently
•Must be able to enter/exit equipment multiple times per shift and maintain focus for extended hours
•Must possess adequate vision, hearing, and hand-eye coordination to safely operate equipment
