Position Summary

The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry’s rapidly changing workforce needs by providing local San Antonio college students with public utility career experience. Through the internship program students are paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experience that expands their understanding of how the industry works and exposes them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to be successful. The internship is not only meant for the intern to learn how to perform, but to also understand the rationale behind the strategies that are being used.

Works under the supervision of Environmental Analysts and Engineers to provide environmental services such as regulatory analysis, permitting, data tracking, and reporting. Applies theories and principles of environmental science and engineering to comply with environmental regulatory requirements. Conducts environmental review and evaluation of electric and gas construction projects.


Tasks and Responsibilities

Assist environmental staff with the review of planned construction projects for cultural and environmental requirements prior to project start. This would include reviewing projects tracked in a company database system, utilizing CPS GIS system, applying for city or county floodplain applications, requesting stormwater plans and/or archeological reviews from consultants;

Assist with compiling and preparing state and federal report submittals;
Assist with record keeping, including those related to waste tracking;
Initiate, implement, and complete project work as assigned;
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Skills


Personal Computer UsageMinimum Knowledge and Abilities

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Must be currently enrolled in a related discipline.

A minimum GPA of 2.5.

Must currently reside within 120 miles of CPS Energy Headquarters.

Demonstrated leadership potential.
