Lead Construction & Maintenance Worker

Plans, lays out and assigns work to a crew and performs any work and all the difficult and exacting tasks required for or relating to the installation, maintenance and construction of pressure vessels, pipelines, and related appurtenances, including;

The complete installation, fabrication, maintenance, overhaul and repair of pressure vessels including LPG liquid storage tanks, vapor tanks, sphere liquid dispensers, skid tanks, barge tanks, high pressure holders, water seal holders, DOT transport tanks; involves rigging, jacking cribbing, chipping, scaling, grinding, steam cleaning, sandblasting, pit-welding, chemical treating, painting, testing, purging.

The complete preparation, installation, maintenance, and repair of all pipelines (WOG low and high pressure), manifold piping, pumps, meters and regulators.

Carpentry work, rough and finished, involved in the construction, alteration and repair of tank support piers, pipe piers, loading stations, bulk heads, pump foundations, concrete block wall footings, etc.

Masonry work involved in the construction, alteration and repair of masonry arches, machine and equipment foundations.

General laborer work in clearing, excavating, trenching, general cleaning, etc.

Determines procedures, tools and material required, makes time and material cost estimates, and requisitions stock supplies and power equipment needed. Prepares and maintains pertinent logs and reports as required.

Interprets and works from oral instructions, sketches, blueprints, or written specifications.

Provides directions and instructions to assigned personnel in the correct methods of performing work functions.

Maintains assigned work areas and equipment in a clean, orderly, and safe condition; performs housekeeping duties as required and/or instructed.

Carries out safety orders pertaining to his area and reports any unsafe conditions that he cannot remedy.

Performs related and other work as required.

Must have a high school education or equivalent.

Must have acquired at least 4 years of practical experience in hot work on pipelines and pressure vessels either through the successful completion of an apprenticeship training program, or 4 years of responsible trade work under the direct supervision of a qualified master or journeyman.

He must have demonstrated (1) that he can plan and skillfully lay out work, (2) that he has a very good working knowledge of standard practices, processes, methods and materials of the trade, (3) that he has the manual ability to direct the work of helpers in a harmonious fashion.

Preference to trade school training.

Must have a valid type 5 driver's license. Preferably be qualified to operate a boom truck.

Works both indoors and outdoors, in confined spaces below ground level and under harbor piers, and at elevations exceeding 100 feet.

Involves hot work and pipe pressures through 700 psig.

Degree of exposure to gas fumes varies from light to an occasional extreme concentration requiring use of a gas mask.

May involve work at nights, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, subject to 24-hour emergency call-out.

Must be able to travel for duration of project.

Must be in good physical condition; good eyesight, 20/20 vision or 20/20 corrected.

Work involves a moderate to heavy degree of physical effort.

Lumbo sacral spine must be considered a good risk for heavy labor work.

Must not have acrophobia or claustrophobia.
