Position Summary

The Lead Technician performs repairs and maintenance of heavy equipment and is the go-to resource for the team of service technicians within the service center. This position provides technical guidance, supports troubleshooting efforts, and ensures adherence to safety and compliance standards.


Essential Functions

Diagnose and repair mechanical defects with heavy equipment fleet and other related products within the BEC portfolio
Disassemble, repair and reassemble components, such as engines, transmissions, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and powertrains
Proficient at rebuilding, adjusting, reinstalling and aligning components and assemblies
Extensive knowledge of machine shop tools and knowledge of safe machine shop practices
Ability to apply appropriate welding and fabrication techniques when required
Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to mechanics, ensuring skill development and problem-solving support
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
Complete repairs in a timely and effective manner, communicating effectively with Service Team Leads, Parts Team and other Service Technicians to ensure optimal efficiency while helping maximize shop productivity
Provide detailed estimates for repairs and replacements
Maintain records of all maintenance work completed on vehicles, including parts and supplies used
Ensure work orders are completed properly and accurately
May communicate repair estimates and project status with customers as needed
Assist with mechanical issues in the field as needed
Maintain a clean and organized work environment
Other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skill, And Abilities

Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to read and interpret 12V electrical and hydraulic schematics
Effective team player with leadership capabilities
Strong diagnostic skills for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
Superior customer service and communication skills
Strong time management and organization skills
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or certification in diesel repair preferred
5+ years of mechanical experience in automotive, heavy equipment or similar repair fields
Extensive experience analyzing and diagnosing complex mechanical issues


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequent bending, squatting, crouching, reaching
Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds or more
Work in both indoor and outdoor environments as needed
May require standing or working in awkward positions for extended periods
