Job Summary:
The Locator utilizes utility maps and electronic detection equipment to identify and mark underground natural gas facilities. The position is responsible for timely and accurate locates of facilities ahead of construction activities to eliminate the risk of utility damage.
Duties
•Use a laptop, tablet, or smartphone to receive, document and execute locates
•Read and interpret utility maps to identify the type, size, and pressure of the natural gas utility
•Use assigned communication equipment to effectively communicate with appropriate parties regarding status of the locate
•Operate different electronic detection equipment to locate and accurately mark facilities
•Perform light excavation, utilizing safe hand digging practices, to expose facilities when necessary
•Provide accurate documentation related to all locates completed
•Operate company vehicles in a safe manner and maintain a professional appearance
•Perform work in all weather conditions
•Carry locating equipment for extended periods of time
•Support general labor activities when necessary
•Communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and field leaders
•Travel frequently within designated work area
Requirements
•Outdoor work or manual labor experience
•Proficient use of hand tools
•Ability to work outdoors in densely populated and remote areas
•Ability to lift heavy objects
•Ability to reach overhead above the shoulders and horizontally, bend at the waist, stand, and walk for extended periods of time
•Ability to safely work around heavy equipment and machinery
•Must be 18 years of age or older
•High school diploma or equivalent. 2+ years’ experience in lieu of education will be considered.
•Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively in a team environment
