The Manager Health & Wellness - Workers’ Compensation, provides strategic and operational leadership over Suncor's employee health programs related to workers’ compensation claims, including occupational illness and injury. This includes oversight of domestic and international Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) programs, as well as support for non-occupational medical leave management.

This role plays a key part in optimizing WCB premium performance and account structure, ensuring legislative and regulatory compliance, and overseeing end-to-end claim management strategies across multiple jurisdictions. The Manager leads a team of Advisors and Specialists within the Employee Health Centre of Excellence and collaborates with internal and external partners to reduce injury risk, enhance employee experience, manage absences effectively, and support return-to-work (RTW) strategies both in Canada and globally.


Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Disability Management, Occupational Health, Human Resources, Health Sciences, or a related field

Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered
CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) designation or other relevant credentials (CDMP, CRTWC, RRP) preferred
8 years of progressive experience in Workers’ Compensation, disability management, or employee health roles, including supervisory experience
Demonstrated success in optimizing WCB program performance, managing claims across multiple jurisdictions, and navigating international Workers’ Compensation systems
Deep understanding of both Canadian and International workers’ compensation legislation, compliance frameworks, and reporting standards
Experience working in unionized, multi-jurisdictional, and regulated environments
Expert knowledge of WCB legislation, Human Rights law, Canada Labour Code, and international Workers’ Compensation systems
Strong understanding of employer compliance obligations, reporting requirements, and risk mitigation strategies
Strong presentation, facilitation, and negotiation skills in a multicultural, cross-functional environment
High level of discretion, emotional intelligence, and professionalism when managing sensitive cases.
Effective analytical and data interpretation skills to inform strategy and reporting
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, case management platforms, and HRIS systems


Responsibilities:

Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of domestic and international Workers’ Compensation programs, including account structure, classification reviews, experience ratings, and premium optimization
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations at the federal, provincial, and international levels
Support evidence-based health and safety initiatives that contribute to improved return-to-work outcomes, reduced workplace injuries, and enhanced employee experience
Provide overflow support and consultation for non-occupational medical leave cases as needed.
Deliver employee and leadership training on workers’ compensation legislative requirements and best practices
Collaborate with internal departments and external providers to identify injury trends, resolve claim challenges, and improve outcomes for both employees and the organization
Supervise Employee Health Advisors and Specialists responsible for case management, RTW coordination, accommodations, and comprehensive claim management for workers’ compensation illness and injury claims across all jurisdictions
Oversee international workers’ compensation claims and liaise with local representatives or consultants where applicable
Guide the resolution of complex claims and contribute strategic input for workers’ compensation and non-occupational cases, leveraging best practices and evidence-based programming to mitigate impact on both the organization and employees
Develop and implement data-driven performance and health action plans to enhance organizational outcomes and employee experience across domestic and global Workers’ Compensation programs
Maintain strong partnerships with WCB board staff or representatives, global occupational health vendors, medical consultants, and internal stakeholders
Represent the employer in Canadian and international appeals, cost mitigation efforts, audits, and policy reviews
Provide coaching and mentorship to internal staff to support claim integrity, regulatory adherence, and high-quality RTW outcomes
Foster a shared accountability model with operational teams and business leaders across international divisions


Location & Other Key Details:

You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
Occasional travel may be required, including domestic and international locations, for hearings, training, or on-site assessments.
