We are seeking an experienced Manual Machinist to support the mechanical maintenance operations at a sugar mill. The ideal candidate will operate and maintain manual machine tools including lathes, milling machines, horizontal boring mills, and saws to fabricate, modify, and repair parts essential to mill operations.
· Operate manual lathes, milling machines, horizontal boring mills, and saws to machine a variety of components such as shafts, bushings, couplings, pump parts, and custom fittings.
· Read and interpret mechanical drawings, sketches, and work orders to determine machining requirements.
· Measure and verify dimensions using precision tools such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
· Perform basic layout and setup of raw stock and tooling for efficient machining operations.
· Fabricate and repair parts to support rotating equipment, conveyors, gearboxes, and mill machinery.
· Assist maintenance teams during shutdowns or emergency breakdowns by quickly producing or modifying needed components.
· Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring proper handling and maintenance of shop equipment.
· Document completed work and report any deviations or concerns to supervisors.
· High school diploma or GED required; completion of a machinist apprenticeship or vocational training is a plus.
· Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience operating manual machining equipment in an industrial setting.
· Strong knowledge of feeds, speeds, tooling, and machining best practices.
· Proficient in precision measurement and quality control.
· Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
· Commitment to safety, reliability, and high-quality workmanship.
