New Afton Mine

Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.

About the Role

Schedule: 5x2, Monday – Friday, 4x3, Monday - Thursday

Position Reports To: Senior Operations Metallurgist

Position Overview: We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Metallurgy Co-op student to join our New Afton team for a 4-month work term commencing in September 2025.The metallurgy co-op student will work with mill operations and metallurgical personnel to identify, evaluate, and implement solutions to improve process performance and/or reduce costs.

Block Caving

New Afton Mine is currently the only operating block cave mine in Canada. Block Caving is an underground mass mining method that allows the extraction of larger and lower grade deposits than traditional underground mining methods. As many of the worlds large surface mines continue to exhaust their viable open pit reserves and new surface deposits continue to decrease, block caving will provide an economical method for continuing to mine these large deposits underground.

Technology & Innovation

Compensation

The anticipated salary for this position is between $52,000 to $64,480. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to reloate to the Kamloops area.
