Job Title: Metallurgy Manager
About the Role
We’re looking for a hands-on Metallurgy Manager to assist in the design and set up of the new Metallurgy lab at our Ancaster, Ontario location. This role will be responsible for testing and reporting and will also play a significant role in developing the department, including hiring employees as the department grows. This role is ideal if you are an experienced professional with a background in Mineral Processing, Extractive Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering and are excited to build and manage a team in an analytical laboratory setting.
About You
Education and Experience Requirements:
•Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or Extractive Metallurgy
•PEng registration preferred
•A minimum of 3 years’ experience in metallurgy, mineral processing; gold or base metals processing preferred
•Up-to-date knowledge of process technologies and trends
Responsibilities: May include some or all of the following or any other assigned task directly or indirectly by management. This is a hands-on role for someone that wants to build a new Metallurgy department.
Manage projects from start to finish, which include the following activities:
•Complete metallurgical balances and communicate data to the clients
•Analyze data and determine direction of the testing program based upon the results
•Upon completion of the test program, analyze and present the data in a format suitable for using in the project final report
•Write final technical reports for projects under management and projects managed by others if needed
•Conducting, supervising, and reporting bench scale and pilot plant test work
•Direct, supervise and when necessary, conduct test work in laboratory
•Liaising with Research and Development, Maintenance Manager, and Laboratory Management regarding ongoing test programmes
•Providing a mentoring role for other technical staff
•Observe established safety regulations and comply with all health and safety policies
•Plan, review, and interpret metallurgical test work to establish process design criteria
•Select and size major and minor mineral processing equipment and collaborate with equipment vendors
•Complete equipment specifications and datasheets, where applicable
•Ensure process designs meet safety and environmental standards while participating in design reviews
•Conduct process design calculations and support the development of deliverables
•Collaborate with other functional groups and disciplines to ensure integrated process and reporting designs
•Prepare and analyze operating costs (OPEX), including labour, power, maintenance, reagents and consumable costs
•Support the development of capital cost estimates (CAPEX)
•Conduct techno-economic trade-off studies to optimize flowsheets, equipment, and technologies
•Summarize metallurgical test results in reports and presentations
•Write process maps, training documents, and descriptions
•Participate in laboratory and process layout development
