The National EHS Manager (NEHSM)

Oversees implementation of the EHS Program for all operations groups, with an emphasis on supporting jobsites. The NEHSM provides support, technical assistance, and training in administration of and compliance with Federal, State, local, and EHS requirements. The NEHSM works closely with the EHS Director to develop and launch programs that maintain safe and healthful working conditions and promote protection against accidents, illnesses, and injuries. This position will be based in the Troy, Michigan Corporate office.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Supports and assists operations management and field operations personnel in them implementation of the EHS Program at jobsites.
Mobilizes, as requested, to jobsites to provide EHS support functions.
Assists the EHS Director with deploying all aspects of the EHS Program.
Assists in the development and implementation of EHS policies, procedures, and programs.
Conducts jobsite, office, and warehouse inspections. Assists development, tracking, and assures implementation of corrective actions.
Communicates the impacts of existing and emerging regulatory issues and changes. Evaluates the need for EHS and/or other personnel training on new regulations and makes recommendation to the EHS Director.
Assist EHS Director with EHS training through online training or 3rd party providers. Coordinates documentation of training events.
Develops good working relationships with all levels of Federal, State, and local regulatory personnel.
Assists with completion of Job Hazard Analyses, as well as any other jobsite EHS needs.
Performs jobsite safety inspections identifies and communicates unsafe acts or conditions, unsafe behaviors, missing/inadequate PPE, and implements corrective actions.
Develops good working relationships with and maintains routine communications with Operations Groups.
Responds to and investigates jobsite, office, or warehouse accidents and incidents, as needed. Writes investigative reports summarizing the issues and implements corrective actions.
Assures completion of WC & AL incident reports in SiteDocs.
Assists EHS Director in developing and maintaining accident and injury statistics.
Assists EHS Director with generation of Safety Metrics.
Assists EHS Director, as needed, during periods of absence (vacations, travel, and other support activities).
Performs a variety of other assignments as directed by the EHS Director.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree or certification in EHS profession or equivalent with at least 2 years of experience.
Maintain or obtain appropriate EHS professional credentials and continuing education.
Ability to multi-task across technical and non-technical tasks in support of projects/tasks. Skills include organization and prioritization of data and paperwork.
Ability to assist with development and delivery of EHS training and informational presentations of, all applicable EHS subjects to all levels of the company.
Ability to stay abreast of emerging regulatory issues and related compliance technologies and programs.
Strong research and computer skills. Proficient in use of MS Office applications of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Good written and verbal communications skills with ability to capture thoughts, ideas as balanced with objective directive language as presented to a broad section of company personnel as well as agency regulatory bodies.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills and willingness to engage in difficult issues with ability to use team/soft skills to derive cost-effective and balanced solutions.
Ability to make multimedia presentations.
Ability to research EHS regulations and make written recommendations to maintain compliance.
Good interpersonal and relationship building skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and employees one-on-one or in group settings.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to travel up to approximately 70% of the time, as needed.
Ability to sit in front of a computer for long periods of time and be able to travel via car and/or air to visit job sites or conduct training.
Walking long distances and climbing stairs at job sites.
Accessing and inspecting elevated work areas, such as roofs and scaffolds.
Wearing various forms of PPE, as jobsites demand. (e.g. safety toe boots, hard hats, respirators, protective suits, and fall protection harnesses).
Overtime may be required in order to meet deadlines, as well as the flexibility to be available after normal business hours and/or on weekends.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is sometimes performed in a typical interior/office work environment; however, it will be primarily be performed at jobsites.
Noise level in the work environment can be distracting or loud.
May work in temperatures above 100 degrees or below 32 degrees and be on job sites.
Jobsite conditions may include damaged structure, wet conditions, adverse weather, and a lack of utilities (power, air conditioning, heat, etc.).
