About This Job

The Syracuse Combined Cycle is a 103 MW facility with a Siemens V64.3 combustion turbine, a Deltak three-drum HRSG, and an Ansaldo steam turbine. This role may occasionally support the Beaver Falls facility in Beaver Falls, NY, a 107 MW 1x1 combined-cycle dual-fuel cogeneration plant supplying steam to two paper mills, featuring Siemens V64.3 and Ansaldo turbines, a Deltak HRSG, and a Tempella boiler. These plants play a critical role in the regional energy landscape, ensuring reliable power and supporting New York's industrial operations.


Opportunity Summary


The Operations & Maintenance (O&M) / IC&E Technician is responsible for monitoring the status of all plant systems on a continuous basis. Responds to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions and executes plant shutdown and start-up procedures as required. Ensures that the plant meets its generating requirements while operating in a safe and efficient manner. This role also involves troubleshooting, calibrating, and repairing instrumentation, DCS, and PLC systems, supporting planned outages, emergency repairs, and routine maintenance tasks under supervisory guidance. Additionally, the technician will participate in plant operations, and assist with administrative duties to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the facility.


Primary Functions

Execute operational orders from the Control Room Operator (CRO) for starting and securing equipment or making it ready for service in accordance with operating instructions and procedures
Assist the CRO in start-up, shutdown and normal operations of power plant systems
Operate major auxiliary equipment such as: air compressors, boiler feedwater and condensate system, water treatment systems and locally controlled electrical and mechanical equipment
Perform inspections, make minor repairs and equipment adjustments to achieve proper operating conditions
Perform routine water chemistry analysis and operate Continuous Emissions Monitoring equipment
Collect and log plant operating data
Report any abnormal or irregular conditions that develop during the progress of the work and take corrective measures within the scope of operating instructions
Perform I&C work activities to support planned outages, emergency repairs, and other maintenance tasks to ensure plant systems operate efficiently, reliably, and safely
Troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair power plant instrumentation, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
Maintain Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) equipment per regulatory agencies
Participate in root cause analysis of abnormal conditions, alarms, and equipment trips
Maintain accurate records of plant maintenance work utilizing the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Ensure that all equipment repair or modification complies with manufacturer guidelines
Thoroughly understand and follow all plant safety policies and procedures
Adhere to all Environmental, NERC and other regulatory compliance codes and regulations
Maintain plant DC emergency battery backup systems
Follow established preventive and predictive maintenance plans, including testing and operating control equipment and systems
Complete plant administrative duties and other tasks as assigned by the Plant Manager

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions


Industrial plant environment. Physical requirements include the ability to reach, climb, walk, and stoop throughout the workday, as well as the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.


Fitness for Duty


All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.


Work Schedule


This position involves a regular Monday to Friday schedule during day shift hours. However, it may also require extended working hours and variable shifts, including weekends and holidays, based on schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On-call" status will be periodically required.


Compensation


The initial starting compensation will range from $36 to $40 per hour and will include an annual performance bonus.


Job Qualifications

Ability to comprehend procedures and instructions relevant to the assigned area, typically developed through completion of a high school education.
Prior experience in power plant operations within an operating or generating plant is required. Extensive working knowledge of the power plant industry is desirable.
Experience in the operation and maintenance of plant systems, including HRSG, turbines, and auxiliary equipment, as well as a proven ability to respond effectively to emergency operations and system dispatch orders, is required.
High-level competency in troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of power plant instrumentation, including pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters, thermocouples, pressure switches, temperature switches, proximity probes, vibration sensors, I/P controllers, flow elements and transmitters, electrical relays, gas analyzers, and speed sensors, is required.
Extensive experience in troubleshooting and repair of plant control systems is essential.
Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and experience in maintaining detailed operational records, including Operating Logs, is essential.
Experience with piping and instrument schematics and process controls is desirable.
Strong leadership and motivational skills are required. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
The ability to work well with others, be self-directed, and apply creative solutions to unique problems is desirable.
Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license, ensuring it remains in good standing at all times.
