Title: Outage Safety Specialist

Key Project Requirements:
•5+ Years of Safety Experience in Power Generation or Industrial Settings – Strong background in outage safety oversight, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance, preferably within CCGT power plants.
•Expertise in OSHA Regulations and Safety Compliance – Proven ability to conduct LOTO, Confined Space, and Hot Work Permit audits, ensuring adherence to OSHA standards and site-specific safety policies.
•Strong Communication and Leadership Skills – Ability to participate in safety meetings, train contractors, and collaborate with plant personnel to maintain a safe working environment throughout the outage.
Job Summary:
PIC Group is seeking an experienced Outage Safety Specialist to support a 1250MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) facility during a scheduled outage in Illinois. Reporting to the EHS Manager, the Outage Safety Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring all outage activities comply with site safety protocols, regulatory standards, and best practices. This role requires hands-on field safety oversight, contractor engagement, and proactive risk mitigation to ensure a safe and incident-free outage execution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Conduct site safety orientations for all contractors participating in the outage.
•Lead daily safety meetings, presenting safety topics to the workforce.
•Participate in two daily outage team meetings to address safety concerns and compliance updates.
•Perform frequent safety walkdowns throughout the day to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
•Generate and maintain daily safety reports detailing audit findings, observations, and corrective actions.
•Rotate attendance in contractor tailgate safety meetings, ensuring consistency in safety messaging across teams.
•Review and approve safety plans, including critical lift plans and special procedures.
•Conduct safety audits of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space Entries, and Hot Work Permits.
•Participate in Pre-Job Briefings, focusing on high-risk tasks to ensure hazard awareness and proper controls.
•Provide on-the-ground safety oversight, promptly identifying and addressing unsafe conditions or behaviors.
Job Requirements:
•Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced outage environment.
•Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to interact professionally with contractors, plant personnel, and leadership.
•Previous experience in a safety role within a power generation facility, preferably during outage activities.
•Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, power plant safety standards, and outage safety protocols.
•Ability to analyze and interpret safety procedures, warning signs, equipment use requirements, and hazard control measures.
Physical Requirements:
•Ability to walk, stand, and climb stairs for extended periods in an industrial power plant setting.
•Must have strong vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
•Ability to wear and correctly use PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, gloves, and high-visibility vests while on-site.
Education / Experience:
•High School Diploma required.
•Previous outage safety experience in a power generation or industrial facility strongly preferred.
•5+ years of safety experience in power generation or industrial settings.
