JOB SUMMARY:

Produces high quality, potable water by monitoring the water treatment process at an assigned water treatment plant or to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the water treatment facilities and systems facilities, as assigned, in compliance with established state and federal environmental guidelines.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Plant Operator 3

Conducts plant rounds and checks on equipment; monitors plant equipment; inspects operations and grounds; observes the plant’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system; ensures all equipment and systems are in proper working order; monitors the flow; adjusts controls and processes, as necessary, for optimum performance; and ensures all plant equipment is maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Takes samples throughout treatment processes; performs laboratory analyses; makes process changes and adjustments; records lab results; and updates records.
May conducts tours; and assists with special projects.
Performs minor repairs of plant equipment, such as repairing belts, greasing equipment, changing water filters, etc.; makes changes to equipment and repairs breakdowns as they occur; ensures that all flocculators are greased and workable; and performs equipment calibrations.
Maintains proper inventory of chemicals, materials, and supplies.
Records and archives statistical data concerning plant operations and plant performance.
Maintains logs of work activities; documents all problems or complaints.
Collects, compiles, and reviews environmental and operational data; prepares data for control and regulatory reports.
Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments; operates and maintains supervisory data and control acquisition (SCADA) system, aeration blowers, various pumps and motors, bar screens, grit chambers, clarifiers, odor control systems, forklift, chemical feeders, filters, spectrophotometers, pH machines, turbidity machines, chlorine disinfectant systems, flocculators, and other tools and equipment.

Water Production: provides drinking water; keeps water quality clean and pristine; checks gauges, readings, flow levels, pumps, motors, and valves, etc.; processes control measures in order to meet the MCLs and secondary limits as outlined by the EPD; tests chemical residuals throughout treatment processes; performs pH, chlorine, phosphate, fluoride, iron, color, and alkalinity tests; performs laboratory analyses; and adjusts chemical feeders as needed based on laboratory results; makes chemical or pump changes; calculates feed rates, chemical dosage, and flows; conducts safety checks; maintains the effectiveness of water filters; inspects and cleans filters as needed; drains sludge from basins; drains and fills for cleaning; climbs lime silo to measure lime levels; runs dewatering centrifuges; performs filter surveys; climbs into filter to measure sand and anthracite; enters readings on bench sheet and in WIMS; cleans turbi meters, UV lamps, and fillers; cleans off bar screens; turns river pumps on/off; and secures grounds.

Water Production: produces high quality, potable, drinking water; keeps water storage tanks at correct operating levels; checks gauges, readings, flow levels, pumps, motors, UV reactors, and valves, etc.; tests chemical residuals; performs pH, chlorine, manganese, turbidity, fluoride, phosphate, and alkalinity tests; adjusts and fills chemical feeders as needed; sprays and brushes off settling plates to keep them from getting stopped up; monitors the flow throughout the plant to ensure water quality ;maintains the effectiveness of water filters; inspects and cleans filters as needed; drains sludge from basins; drains and fills for cleaning; flushes out sample lines; checks for oil loss of pumps and lubricates as needed; and receives/offloads chemicals.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Plant Operator 1

Inspects operations; observes the plant’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system; adjusts controls and processes, as necessary, for optimum performance.
Monitors and adjusts equipment and system to meet demands; ensures all plant equipment is maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Takes samples; tests; performs laboratory analyses; makes process changes; records results; and updates information.
May conducts tours and special projects.
Trains other operators in all areas of operations.
Records and archives statistical data concerning plant operations and plant performance.
Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments; operates and maintains supervisory data and control acquisition (SCADA) system, aeration blowers, various pumps and motors, bar screens, grit chambers, clarifiers, odor control systems, forklift, chemical feeders, pumps, filters, spectra-photo meters, pH meters, turbidity machines, chlorine disinfectant systems, flocculators, and other tools and equipment.

Water Production: treats non-potable water so it becomes safe for the public to drink; keeps water storage tanks at correct operating levels; checks gauges, readings, flow levels, pumps, motors, and valves, etc.; tests chemical residuals throughout treatment processes; adjusts chemical feeders as needed based on laboratory results; maintains the effectiveness of water filters; inspects and cleans filters as needed.; drains sludge from basins; dewaters; drains and fills for cleaning; monitors meters; handles UV treatment as needed; ensures and optimizes adequate polymer supply; monitors the flow throughout the plant to ensure water quality; performs minor repairs on plant equipment such as repairing belts or greasing equipment; performs equipment calibrations; logs work activities such as lab results and process control changes; cleans chemical room and work stations; and documents problems or complaints.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:


Plant Operator 3

High school diploma or equivalent; one (1) year of work experience in water treatment operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.


Required Licenses/Certifications:

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
Must possess and maintain a Georgia Class III Water Treatment System Operator


Preferred Licenses/Certifications:

Georgia Class A CDL


Plant Operator 2:

•High school diploma or equivalent plus training in water treatment systems, or a related field; two (2) years of related work experience in water treatment operations depending on assignment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

•Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

•Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

•Must possess and maintain a Georgia Class II Water Treatment System Operator


Preferred Licenses/Certifications:

Georgia Class A CDL


Plant Operator 1:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as medium work involving lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 15 pounds or more.
Tasks typically involve some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing; tasks may also involve some pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight
