This is a salaried, exempt position typically requiring a 50-hour workweek. The role requires flexibility to support business needs, which may occasionally involve extended hours.
As Fabrication Manager, your primary responsibility is to oversee and manage the fabrication processes involved in transforming raw materials into finished steel products. You will lead a team of skilled fabricators, ensuring the efficient production of high-quality steel components or structures while adhering to safety, quality, and project timelines. Your role is crucial in coordinating and optimizing fabrication activities, managing resources, and maintaining effective communication with various stakeholders.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate the fabrication processes, including cutting, forming, and assembly, to meet production targets and project deadlines.
- Allocate resources effectively, such as equipment, materials, and manpower, to optimize production efficiency and minimize downtime.
- Develop and implement production schedules, ensuring adherence to project timelines and customer delivery requirements.
- Collaborate with drafting teams to review project specifications, drawings, and technical documents to ensure accurate fabrication processes and quality standards.
- Lead and supervise a team of fabricators, assigning tasks, providing guidance, and monitoring performance to ensure high productivity and quality workmanship.
- Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of the fabrication team, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and industry best practices.
- Foster a positive work environment, promoting teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and identify opportunities for skill development and career growth for the fabrication team.
- Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure that fabricated steel components or structures meet specified standards and customer requirements.
- Conduct inspections of fabricated products to identify defects, deviations, or non-conformities, and initiate corrective actions as necessary.
- Monitor compliance with safety regulations, ensuring that all fabrication activities adhere to safety protocols and best practices.
- Collaborate with quality assurance teams to develop and implement quality assurance procedures and protocols.
- Coordinate with vendors to ensure the availability and proper maintenance of fabrication equipment and tools.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, or optimization to enhance fabrication efficiency and reduce production costs.
- Stay updated with industry trends, new fabrication techniques, and technologies to recommend and implement innovative solutions.
- Collaborate with Sales Manager, designers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements, timelines, and specifications.
- Communicate and coordinate with internal departments, such as procurement, design, fleet and logistics, to ensure smooth project execution and timely delivery of fabricated components.
- Provide regular progress updates to stakeholders, addressing any concerns, deviations, or potential risks.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, or a related field (preferred).
- Proven experience in fabrication management, preferably in the steel industry.
- Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks and ProNest preferred.
- Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, including cutting, welding, forming, and assembly techniques.
- Familiarity with industry standards and quality control procedures in steel fabrication.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of relevant software tools and technologies for fabrication planning and monitoring.
Hourly/Salary wage will be competitive and vary depending on experience. We pay 90% of the employees health insurance & dental. We also offer vacation/sick pay and 401k.
We are also willing to help cover moving costs to Gillette, WY.
