POSITION OVERVIEW
Functions as a specialist in safety/health and related regulatory affairs. Formulates safety and health programs, implements safety procedures and processes in cooperation with the Ray Mine management group. Evaluates safety and health performance and activities, recommends and implements improvements. Exercises independent judgment in safety & health matters and develops and applies corrective actions as needed. Reports to the Ray Mine Safety & Health Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/REQUIREMENTS
•Maintaining full compliance with the ASARCO Corporate Environmental, Safety, and Health Policy.
•Provide technical assistance on safety-related compliance projects, safety management system development and implementation, and safety oversight for assigned areas of the mine site.
•Provide various regulatory/non-regulatory training as assigned.
•Advise management on compliance with all applicable Federal, State and Company Safety and Health rules and regulations.
•Leads/Assists in incident investigations to determine root cause and implement appropriate corrective actions.
•Conducts safety/health inspections throughout the property.
•Accompany Federal/State Regulatory inspections.
•Attend safety/line-out meetings.
•Assist in Industrial Hygiene sampling as needed.
•Assist Corporate Safety Manager as needed.
•Additional Safety/Health responsibilities within assigned area/s as needed.
•Must be available for off-shift safety on-call as needed.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
•Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to facilitate meetings and speak in front of large groups of people.
•Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Requirements:
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
•Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible Safety & Health experience.
•Demonstrated ability to provide detailed regulatory interpretation of federal and state MSHA regulations.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience delivering presentations as well as writing comprehensive technical reports and standards.
•Strong MS Office computer skills; advanced understanding of PowerPoint, Excel, and Word desired.
•Ability to succeed in a fast-paced work environment, handling multiple project assignments and meeting strict deadlines.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
•Bachelors of Science Degree in safety, engineering, or related discipline.
•Certified Mine Safety Professional designation (CMSP)
