Opportunity Summary

The Senior Accountant plays a key role in managing accounting activities related to power generation assets, ensuring accuracy and compliance across financial transactions. This position is based at Gate City Power Holdings, with the employee retained as a NAES team member through a secondment agreement. The role involves overseeing complex reconciliations, supporting month-end close processes, and collaborating with various departments to drive timely and accurate financial reporting. The Senior Accountant will have the opportunity to contribute to a vital segment of the energy industry within a dynamic and supportive team environment.

Your scope of responsibility as Senior Accountant includes the following primary functions:

Review, approve, and ensure accurate classification of Accounts Payable (AP) entries in accordance with internal policies and GAAP.
Post and reconcile corporate credit card transactions, ensuring appropriate coding and supporting documentation.
Review and sign off on daily cash receipts, ensuring accurate and timely posting to appropriate accounts.
Record, monitor, and reconcile accrued Accounts Receivable (AR) entries, ensuring alignment with revenue recognition standards.
Track and record emissions allowance activity, including purchases, usage, and associated liabilities, in compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks.
Book AP accruals during month-end and quarter-end close, ensuring completeness and accuracy of expenses.
Manage payroll accruals and ensure reconciliation to actuals and alignment with forecasted labor costs.
Process, post, and reconcile payroll-related entries, including regular payroll and bonus accruals.
Prepare and review other recurring and non-recurring journal entries, including prepaids, fixed assets, intercompany, and adjusting entries as needed.
Support the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring timely completion of all accounting deliverables.
Assist in the development, documentation, and execution of internal controls and accounting procedures.
Coordinate with internal and external auditors by providing requested schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
Collaborate with operations, asset management, and finance teams to ensure alignment of accounting entries with operational performance of power generation assets.
Assist with the preparation of financial statements and management reports related to power generation asset performance.
Participate in ongoing process improvement initiatives to streamline accounting workflows and enhance accuracy.
Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned to support the accounting function and overall business objectives.

Working Relationships

The Senior Accountant reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer at Gate City, as well as the VP Operations at NAES Corporation, and may also occasionally coordinate with NAES Corporate Accounting and Finance departments.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

This is an office-based position performed in a professional, climate-controlled environment. The role involves extended periods of desk work at a computer workstation, with frequent screen time, data entry, and document review. It requires regular use of accounting software, spreadsheets, and other financial systems. The position may include occasional meetings, either in person or via video conferencing, and frequent communication through email and phone.

Physical demands are minimal and generally limited to lifting or moving light office materials. Smoking is prohibited in and around the office facility.


Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes successful completion of a post-offer/pre-employment drug screen.


Work Schedule

The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday. However, this position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to workload demands.


Compensation

This position offers an annual base salary ranging from $100,000 to $125,000 and includes eligibility for an annual performance bonus.


Professional Expertise & Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate with a strong and comprehensive background in accounting. A solid understanding of core accounting principles and practices is essential. Exposure to related areas such as compliance and regulatory requirements is considered an asset.

Ability to understand and apply procedures and instructions related to accounting functions, typically acquired through a high school diploma, and extended through relevant work experience.
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred. Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of education on a year-for-year basis.
Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the energy, manufacturing, or other asset-intensive industries.
Solid knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and demonstrated expertise in month-end and year-end financial close processes.
Proficiency with ERP systems; experience with data migration and system implementations is a strong advantage.
Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis capabilities.
Experience preparing and supporting internal and external audits.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
