The machine shop manager will oversee daily operations of a small business engineering support and job shop machining activity, including quoting, subcontractor coordination, scheduling of personnel and equipment, and delivery of fabricated parts. The tasks corresponding to these responsibilities include the following:
· Plan, coordinate and directly supervise operation of a two-to-five person in-house machine shop.
· Implement corporate strategies for customer and capability growth for precision machined products and services.
· Plan and execute capture of machine shop metrics including accuracy data for time and cost estimates along with vendor lead-time performance.
· Develop data-driven operational efficiencies for use of existing CNC capabilities.
· Prepare evaluations of in-house machine shop and outsource vendor capability to produce customer parts from drawings and/or 3d models.
· Apply direct machining experience to operation of a small workforce shop for design support of developmental electronics systems.
· Recommend equipment, tooling, and shop infrastructure for project and capital improvement of the machine shop.
· Prepare, as needed, CAM toolpath files for use by line machinists on in-house CNC machine tools.
· Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
· Familiarity with small-workforce, precision machine shop operations
· Familiarity with detailed scheduling of personnel and equipment
· Familiarity with mechanical design support of electronics housings for ocean environments and deep ocean pressure vessels
· Experience coordinating external machine shop vendors and material suppliers
· Experience generating CAM toolpaths for CNC mills using Fusion 360
· Experience in the use of Fusion 360 for modelling of simple 3d objects
· Experience coordinating external machine shop vendors and material suppliers
