About This Job

Summary

The Senior Manager, Compliance will be responsible for ensuring that the company operates in full compliance with all relevant Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) regulations. This role involves strategic leadership, policy development, and day-to-day management of compliance activities. The General Manager of Compliance will work cross-functionally with legal, operations, and executive leadership teams to identify regulatory requirements, implement controls, monitor compliance, and mitigate risks.

Position Description

Develop, implement, and continuously refine the organization’s FERC/NERC compliance strategy to meet evolving regulatory requirements.
Serve as the primary liaison between the organization and federal and regional regulatory agencies (e.g., FERC, NERC, Regional Entities).
Advise executive and board-level leadership on compliance obligations, potential risks, and industry best practices.
Oversee the company-wide compliance program, including the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, and standards aligned with FERC/NERC regulations.
Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to regulatory compliance; generate reports and dashboards for internal reviews and audits.
Lead periodic internal audits and assessments of compliance processes; coordinate external audits as necessary.
Conduct risk assessments to identify potential compliance gaps or vulnerabilities; implement targeted controls and remediation strategies to address them.
Monitor ongoing regulatory changes and emerging compliance trends; recommend and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
Partner with legal, operations, engineering, and other internal stakeholders to ensure that compliance requirements are integrated into business processes and project plans.
Collaborate with Human Resources to develop and deliver relevant training programs, ensuring employees are knowledgeable about regulatory requirements and compliance expectations.
Manage and investigate potential violations of compliance regulations, ensuring timely and thorough incident reporting, root-cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.

Coordinate with external legal counsel and regulatory bodies for formal inquiries or enforcement actions.
Drive a culture of compliance and ethics within the organization by promoting awareness, training, and accountability across all business units.
Conducting or directing the internal and external investigation of compliance matters and issues and working cooperatively with external auditors, when needed.


Required Experience

In-depth understanding of FERC/NERC standards and enforcement processes.
Ability to anticipate regulatory changes and align compliance efforts with organizational goals.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence at all levels of the organization.
Excellent organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to analyze complex regulatory issues to create actionable recommendations.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex regulations in clear, concise terms.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex regulatory and compliance challenges.

Qualifications Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in law, business, finance, or a related field; advanced degree or certifications (e.g., CCEP) preferred.
Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in regulatory compliance, with at least 5 years focusing on FERC/NERC regulations in the energy or utility sector.
Demonstrated track record of developing and managing comprehensive compliance programs.
Extensive knowledge of regulations and compliance frameworks specific to the energy sector, including CFTC, FERC, SEC, DOJ and other relevant regulatory bodies.
Experience leading a compliance function in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment, preferably in the energy trading and IPP industry.
