We are looking for a Senior Process Engineer, Productivity and Operational Technology, to join the Processing Technical Team at our modernized aluminum smelter, in Kitimat, BC. Reporting to the Manager, Process Technical, and working a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:

Adhering and upholding Rio Tinto’s Health, Safety, and Environmental standards while actively engaging in our culture of care, courage, and curiosity.
Driving process improvements by analysing process performance to identify and correct opportunities for process deviations.
Leading initiatives or task forces, from initial to final stage, to ensure that systems perform as designed and are safe, both conceptually and operationally.
Supporting operations and maintenance personnel to optimize the performance of industrial processes by improving safety, reducing costs, and ensuring customer and regulatory compliance
Leveraging our global network of technical experts to bring additional expertise to site, as required, to drive plant safety performance.
Applying technical/professional knowledge to solve complex problems and recommending solutions to make process improvements.
Working independently with minimal supervision and mentoring less experienced staff.
Willing and able to provide occasional technical support outside of regular business hours, as needed.
Serving as a credible technical resource to supervisors, engineers, and technicians, influencing peers and leaders through input on projects and day-to-day operations.
Debugging and optimizing automation systems including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), motor drives, and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI).
Ensuring that modifications follow the management of change (MOS) process with appropriate risk analysis, prior to any modification.


What you’ll bring

A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
A tertiary qualification in Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation, Engineering, Mineral Processing, Chemical, Metallurgy or Industrial Engineering.
Knowledge of Rockwell and Allen Bradley control logic programming including:
+ HMI development environment + Factory Talk View + PI Process Book / PI Vision + Modicon PLC + Rockwell Historian + Instrumentation, Data communication, and PLC troubleshooting + Electrical, functional, and process safety awareness + Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, Modbus
Registered or eligible for immediate registration with Engineers & Geoscientists of British Columbia as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or an Engineer-In-Training (EIT).
A proven aptitude for problem solving and statistical data analysis
At least 10 years of industrial work experience
Collaborative attitude and excellent communication skills – ability to communicate complex technical information simply and succinctly
Minimum of a Class 7 BC Drivers License required, or equivalent.

It will also be beneficial if you have:

Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodology

The base salary range for this role is $113,600 - $170,400 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
