Shipfitter/Welder

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Welder/Fitter to join our 45 day project in Galveston & work in our shop in south Houston. Good contractors will be invited to become full time employees with benefits.

The ideal candidate will have experience in shipyard welding and ship fitting or pipe welding & fitting. Lots of work in confined spaces, or outdoors in the weather. Used to working with old steel and ship structures that pop and require beating wedges to submit into position. Prior ABS or DNV certification is a bonus!

Slightly less than ideal, but welcomed candidates, will include welders that can run a good bead down sitting on a bucket in a shop, but are now willing to try their trade in a more challenging place like a shipyard. Have less experience fitting, and need someone to tack things together for them to weld out, but are willing to learn from their team members.

Duties

- Show up to work on time everyday and be alert during safety meetings

- Staying off your phone for most working hours a day while working with your hands

- Pass drug screen and breathalyzer any day you're at work- Listen and follow directions from supervisors

- Be a team player and pitch into any task required of Bludworth and don't hide from tasks below your skill set.

- Be willing to learn.

- Interpret and understand blueprints and welding processes

- Perform welding, cutting, and grinding duties with precision

- Fit and align fabricated metal parts

- Inspect your welds for accuracy and quality

- Operate hand tools and machinery such as welding machines, torches, calipers, grinders, profile gauges, tape measure, etc..

- Adhere to codes standards and safety regulations

- Collaborate with project teams to ensure project requirements are met

Requirements

- Pass a weld test - pipe fit & butt weld on a 45* angle

- Proficiency in welding techniques and equipment operation

- Experience with machining and soldering is a plus

- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings

- Competency in using basic math skills for measurements and calculations

- Familiarity with hand tools commonly used in metal fabrication

- Strong attention to detail and quality control practices

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 50 – 84 per week
