About the Role
The Shop Foreman will oversee all production activities on the shop floor, ensuring that work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. This role is critical to maintaining workflow efficiency, document control, and performance across teams involved in cutting, welding, fitting, and assembly. The Shop Foreman will coordinate with internal departments to ensure that the right information reaches the right people, and that project timelines are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities
•Production Oversight: Manage daily operations of the steel fabrication shop, including metal cutting, welding, assembly, and finishing.
•Document Control: Ensure all necessary work orders, blueprints, and job packets are properly distributed, understood, and completed accurately and on time.
•Quality Assurance: Monitor in-process and finished product quality, working closely with the QA/QC team to maintain compliance with internal and external standards (e.g ISO 9001).
•Team Supervision: Lead and mentor production staff and department leads, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
•Scheduling and Workflow: Coordinate with project management and scheduling teams to align shop activities with project deadlines.
•Process Optimization: Apply Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and streamline production flow.
•Safety Leadership: Uphold and enforce all company safety protocols, ensuring compliance with OSHA and company-specific standards.
•Resource Management: Manage labor, materials, and shop floor space to meet production targets while optimizing throughput.
•Performance Development: Conduct regular team check-ins and performance reviews, identifying areas for growth and training.
•Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering, Procurement, and Quality departments to ensure successful project execution.
Qualifications
•5+ years of experience in structural steel or custom metal fabrication, with 2+ years in a supervisory or foreman role.
•Strong understanding of fabrication drawings, welding procedures, and shop documentation.
•Familiarity with quality systems such as ISO 9001, and welding codes
•Solid leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a skilled team.
•Comfortable in a high-mix, low-volume production environment where customization is the norm.
