About This Job

A Superintendent's primary responsibility with Oline Construction is to serve as a main contact in the field, work in concert with the Project Manager to schedule, plan and direct all field operations to include management of all work by the company’s own forces and that of the subcontractors.

This position has full responsibility for initiating and implementing all pertinent safety and quality control policies and procedures and will supervise or assist on multiple complex projects at a time. Additional responsibilities include review of subcontractor scopes, participation in buyout, adherence to budget and to ensure the construction process and building are completed to the client’s full satisfaction and at the company’s levels of profitability.

Duties and Responsibilities:

•

Must be well-versed in reading and understanding blueprints and technical documents.

•

Enforces work safety rules. Holds weekly safety meetings with all workers on the project.

•

Manage direct labor crews and contract labor. Ensure all crews have cost-coded and submitted time sheets weekly. Review labor hours with the General Superintendent and/or Project Manager.

•

Detailed Daily Reports are required. The more detailed, the better.

•

Attend meetings as assigned by the General Superintendent and/or Project Manager.

•

Coordinate, schedule, and oversee deliveries of all materials, supplies, and tools, including subcontractors.

•

Be a team leader, lead by example, be respectful but firm, and hold yourself and others accountable.

•

Be proactive by planning ahead, anticipating obstacles, and knowing your job site, drawings, schedule, and trades. Produce schedules and monitor crew attendance, including subcontractor crews.

•

Perform job walks multiple times daily. Look for safety concerns and inspect construction work to enforce conformity to specifications and quality control.

•

Maintain a professional appearance and attitude while on the job sites or acting on the company's behalf.

•

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

•

Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, similar degree or relevant work experience.

•

4+ years as an Assistant Superintendent, Construction Superintendent or Similar Role.

•

In-depth knowledge of construction and engineering principles, practices, and project management methodologies.

Safety:

•

Comply with all safety policies, report suspected safety concerns, make recommendations for enhancements to the safety program, and visibly support and uphold the company’s safety culture.

•

Ensure all construction activities are conducted in a safe, clean and orderly working environment and ensure job site compliance with the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), including addressing job site issues and documentation of any IIPP events in adherence with the Company’s IIPP manual.

•

Conduct weekly safety audits of the worksite and ensure that discrepant items are immediately corrected; maintain documentation of both audits and corrections made.

•

Conduct and document Safe Start meetings with each subcontractor’s Project Manager and/or Foreman, regular safety orientations for new subcontractor workers, weekly safety/coordination meetings with subcontractors’ foreman, and weekly “All Hands” meetings.

•

Ensure all safety documentation (Safety Program, Site Specific Safety Plan, Site Specific MSDSs, JHAs, Designated Safety Person, First Aid/CPR Certifications, etc.) is submitted before allowing a subcontractor to start work.

•

In coordination with the Safety Manager, manage OSHA site visits.

•

Remain current in all company required safety training and certifications.

•

Acknowledge and celebrate safe behaviors and actions of others.

Physical Requirements:

•

Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach.

•

Occasionally required to crawl.

•

Frequently lift 10 lbs. and occasionally lift more than 25 lbs.

•

Extensive reading of documents and computer. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

•

Willingness and ability to work extended hours and flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends.

•

Willingness and ability to travel frequently and for extended periods.

Work Environment:

•

The majority of superintendent duties consist of office and non-manual work in the field; however, working in an office is at times required.

•

Will be exposed to outside weather elements while in the field.

•

May be exposed to loud noises, fumes, and/or airborne particles while in the field.

•

Dress, including proper PPE, is conducive to a building construction environment.
