Overview and Purpose
The Vice President of Field Service provides strategic and tactical leadership across all facilities, ensuring operational excellence and efficiency. Reporting directly to the President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), this role will play a key part in executing the company’s long-term operational strategies while upholding the highest standards of performance and discipline.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic operational leader with a deep understanding of distributed power generation, a commitment to delivering grid-level reliability and exceptional customer service, and a proactive approach to maintenance. Additionally, they will foster a culture of customer service, execution accountability, safety, and stewardship, ensuring that both they and their teams adhere to the Baseline Health, Safety, and Environmental (“HSE”) standards.
Field Operations
•Provide leadership, establish strategic direction, and lead field operations to exceed company objectives.
•Consistently challenge the status quo regarding operational processes with a focus on continuous improvement that better serves our customers and technicians.
•Lead the Directors of Operations to ensure the planning and execution of small and large distributed generation projects are consistently delivered and executed according to standards and procedures.
•Conduct site visits to various regions of the Company and spend time with key leaders in each area, ensuring proper alignment and an understanding of field-level challenges. Additionally, conduct random field inspections of equipment to ensure adherence to Baseline standards.
•Lead the Directors of Operations to ensure facility yards are neat and orderly, meeting the company’s standards of excellence, organization, and operational capability.
•Lead the Directors of Operations in implementing and holding the field organization accountable for inventory management standards as defined by the Supply Chain organization.
•Champion the transformation of the organization from a reactive culture to a proactive culture, focused on disciplined maintenance practices and the use of telematics to drive improved runtimes via shutdown elimination.
+ Lead the Directors of Operations to ensure achievement and timely execution of planned and unplanned maintenance on all power generation equipment to minimize shutdowns and maximize uptime
+ Oversee and manage the organization’s emissions program to ensure compliance and customer service surrounding emissions testing.
+ Regularly interact with key customers, developing trusting and transparent relationships with their equivalent leaders.
+ Develop, lead, and execute strategic special projects as needed to support business growth, operational improvements, and customer initiatives. Collaborate cross-functionally to assess project feasibility, allocate resources, and ensure successful implementation within scope, timeline, and budget.
+ Assist in the creation, refinement, and implementation of processes, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and work instructions to systematize and enhance the execution of field service operations. Ensure consistency, efficiency, and quality in service delivery while driving continuous improvement and alignment with best practices.
PM Scheduling, Planning, and Compliance
•Set the strategy and ensure the continuous refinement of Baseline’s planned maintenance program, including maintenance intervals, compliance with standards, operational processes, and parts consumption. Work extensively with department leaders to implement all planned maintenance programs to the highest levels of excellence.
•Enhance leadership visibility by mitigating maintenance compliance risks; steer priorities to eliminate the highest-risk failures by creating, monitoring, and continually improving key maintenance processes.
•Ensure Supply Chain is proactive in procuring and fulfilling all preventive maintenance parts and consumables.
•Work with the Directors of Operations to ensure timely, accurate, and thorough completion of all required planned maintenance activities.
•Develop annual forecasts of equipment requiring major planned maintenance; develop processes to proactively remove equipment from the field that requires major planned maintenance in a repair facility environment.
•Develop and issue reports to senior management on fleet health, asset condition, spend, and other metrics as needed.
•Utilizing Baseline’s telematics platform, monitor key performance indicators, ensuring negatively trending units are proactively addressed, consistently high-shutdown locations are remediated, and repair times are monitored to minimize downtime.
Safety
•Engage and provide leadership to all team members regarding the development of a strong safety culture to keep safety incidents to zero on an annual basis.
•Ensure Baseline’s regional teams adhere and are consistently held accountable to the Baseline HSE policies and procedures regarding Personal Protective Equipment (“PPE”), reporting, and Safe Work Practices.
•Ensure Baseline’s regional teams adhere to all driving requirements with minimal violations and an excellent safety record.
Human Resources
•Train and develop direct reports in their leadership and operational competency and work to find avenues for growth and promotion over time.
•Champion regular performance feedback, talent, and development initiatives to drive operational improvement, engagement, and team member success.
•Stay actively aligned and engaged with Baseline’s high-grading/A-player strategy.
•Ensure the Field Operations department team-building events occur corporately and regionally throughout the year.
General Technology/IT Responsibilities
•Support the development of processes, procedures, and policies to ensure accountability throughout the company.
•Ensure all existing digital workflow systems are appropriately integrated and properly used by field operations personnel.
•Be an active and engaged thought leader and implementation partner for newly integrated digital workflow tools and systems.
•Support the Directors of Operations from a training and compliance perspective to ensure that all regions are uniformly utilizing Baseline’s technology systems.
Sales and Business Development
•Be an active participant, team member, and thought leader for the sales and business development function.
•Consult with COO and SVP of Sales and Marketing to assist with ensuring proper regional pricing strategies are in place based on quality of service delivered as well as supply and demand implications; participate in strategy sessions that are required to re-align goals and expectations on a regional basis.
•Collaborate closely with the sales team to achieve utilization targets by region.
•Collaborate closely with sales management to ensure efficient sales and operations planning is conducted for all jobs; develop and optimize workflows and communication as necessary.
•Study and analyze the results of sales team forecasts by region on a quarterly and annual basis.
•Stay up to date on all customer issues and complaints; work closely with the field operations team to rapidly identify and resolve customer disputes.
•Visit Baseline’s customers at the field and corporate office level as frequently as possible to ensure customer satisfaction.
Financial
•Collaborate with the COO, CFO, finance team, and field operations team to develop the annual budget and financial plan for the company, including detailed plans for maintenance capital expenditures, growth capital expenditures, and other planned capital expenditures. Monitor all budget-to-actual results on a monthly and quarterly basis.
•Drive field operations team to achieve EBITDA growth, EBITDA margin, and other return metrics as outlined by Baseline’s annual plan.
•Review monthly and quarterly income statements, balance sheets, and key financial metrics. Comment on and identify areas for improvement and growth across the business.
Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required or equivalent industry-related work experience
•Minimum 10+ years’ experience in power generation or equivalent industry
•Strong previous experience driving continuous improvement and operational excellence
•Strategic leadership capability and knowledge of natural gas power generation products
•Demonstrated success with building high-performing teams and leading a culture of belonging that respects every team member
•Proven ability to manage budgets, profit and loss (P&L) statements, and conduct variance analysis effectively
•Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
