Position Overview
The Warehouse Manager is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of all warehouse activities, ensuring accurate inventory control, cost-effective freight management, and a safe, efficient workplace. This role balances hands-on involvement—such as forklift operation and palletization—with strategic responsibilities such as carrier negotiations, KPI tracking, and continuous-improvement initiatives rooted in lean principles.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
•Schedule, book, and track all inbound and outbound shipments (parcel, LTL, FTL, and container).
•Ensure proper documentation, labeling, and carrier compliance for on-time pickups and deliveries.
•Maintain optimal stock levels through regular cycle counts and system reconciliation.
•Proactively alert the purchasing team of reorder points or spikes in demand to prevent stockouts or overstocking.
•Hands-On Warehouse Support
•Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment to assist with palletization, staging, loading, and unloading trucks.
•Model and enforce best safety practices on the floor.
•Damage & Claims Management
•Inspect inbound and outbound products for damages, file freight claims promptly, and follow through to resolution.
•Document root causes and collaborate with carriers, vendors, and internal teams to minimize future losses.
•Freight Cost Optimization
•Continuously analyze freight spend, negotiate carrier rates, and consolidate shipments where feasible.
•Develop creative routing and packaging solutions that reduce costs without sacrificing service quality.
•3PL & External Partner Coordination
•Engage and manage third-party logistics (3PL) providers during peak demand, overflow storage, or specialized projects.
•Monitor 3PL performance against service-level agreements and reconcile invoices.
•Performance Monitoring & Reporting
•Track KPIs such as order accuracy, on-time shipments, dock-to-stock time, and labor productivity.
•Present weekly and monthly performance dashboards to leadership, highlighting wins and targeted corrective actions.
Skills
•Proficiency in shipping and receiving processes.
•Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) for tracking inventory and orders.
•Strong knowledge of inventory control techniques and best practices.
•Familiarity with logistics operations and transportation management principles.
•Understanding of lean methodologies to improve operational efficiency.
•Ability to manage supply chain functions effectively.
•Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
•Strong leadership abilities with effective communication skills.
