We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team. This is a full-time position located in Norman, OK and will typically work Monday - Friday.
The Accountant is responsible for assisting with the daily activities and financial reporting for OEC Electric & Fiber. This includes providing accurate financial and accounting records and assists with maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and financial statement preparation process. The position works under the supervision of the Fiber Controller and in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures, showing great attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. He/she works closely with the Accounting team and the OEC Fiber team.
Responsibilities include:
•Under the supervision of the Fiber Controller, maintains accounting operations for OEC Electric & Fiber.
+ Inputs entries in the general ledger accounting system and fiber work order analysis/closing.
+ Prepares daily, weekly, and monthly adjusting journal entries.
+ Assists in the preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements.
+ Prepares reports and assists in projects and special assignments as needed.
•Assists with the financial planning and investment activities for OEC Fiber.
+ Maintains line of credit between OEC and OEC Fiber.
+ Manages OEC Fiber lease records and payments.
+ Monitors cash management in conjunction with Fiber Controller and VP of Accounting, including providing planning for short-term and intermediate cash needs to ensure adequate cash for payment of weekly invoices and monthly/quarterly debt.
•Assists with the month-end close process for OEC Electric & Fiber.
+ Prepare and enter journal entries.
+ Maintain projects and chart of accounts in relation to journal entries.
+ Analyze and reconcile accounts, intercompany transactions and projects while researching any variance between actual and budgeted results.
+ Assists with maintenance and creation of company, departmental and project reports.
+ Review financial statements for accuracy and GAAP reporting.
•Reviews accounts payable processing.
•Communicates financial information to OEC Electric & Fiber leadership and others.
+ Provides expert advice and guidance as needed.
•Maintains current knowledge of Cooperative policies and procedures, federal and state policies, and current GAAP.
•Assists with other data requests and reconciliations as needed, such as tax filings, property tax filings, regulatory filings, bank reconciliations, and audit requests.
•Participates in the annual budgeting process with the Fiber Controller.
•Analyzes accounting procedures, records, and reports for accuracy and usefulness to OEC Electric & Fiber.
+ Continually reviews financial policies and procedures and recommends changes as appropriate to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry changes.
+ Assists in creating and updating standard operating procedures as needed.
•Attends training, conferences, and trade shows to obtain industry knowledge and career development in areas related to job functions.
•Represents OEC in organizations which pertain to this department’s function or in which participation would be beneficial.
Ideal candidates meet the following qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree and 2 years' experience OR Associate's degree and 3 years' experience OR minimum of 5 years' experience
+ Education should be in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
+ Experience should be of a progressively increasing responsibility in a related field
+ Work experience may be substituted for the education requirement as well as additional education may be substituted for work experience.
•Advanced knowledge and understanding of the development and implementation of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
•Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel
•Basic computer knowledge
•Skill in: using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses; understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making; effectively managing one's time
