About This Job

Lead, plan, and direct the project development, execution and management activities of the organization at an Executive level. Guide overall execution planning of projects and project management processes to meet company objectives and support company assets. Develop, sustain and champion company and department cultural objectives and systems of accountability across organization. Partners with stakeholders to support major project development efforts from inception to execution and in-service of facilities. Expected to play a significant company-level Executive leadership role relative to developing the Company’s fundamental business strategy.



Essential duties and responsibilities:

Demonstrate a culture of safety in project execution across all internal and external resources involved for safe and successful completion of projects.
Work directly with Commercial development teams to support growth initiatives with appropriate level of design, schedule, and cost indications to allow progress toward decisions of feasibility and economic viability.
Direct, lead and manage a compilation of Vice Presidents who have responsibility for the various company commodity lead developments. Provide strategic vision, alignment and accountability expectations to each VP and ensure collaborative and efficient interface with the commercial leadership across the company.
Promote open and continuous communication between various customers, departments, and personnel. Ensure compliance with company policies.
Set expectations for a culture of teamwork and collaboration which results in success of projects to meet company goals despite dynamic initiatives.
Build strong relationships with commercial and operational stakeholders, anticipating their needs and providing support to them as requested.
Provide leadership and direction to project teams in establishment of each project specific team consisting of members from across the organization to ensure project success.
Comply with and assure compliance with all regulations local, State, Federal, tribal, and other on all aspects of the project.
Foster the company culture of compliance and safety through frequent discussions and clear communication of accountability.
Ensure appropriate discretion is embraced by project teams during commercially sensitive efforts and time frames.
Report to Executive Management on current performance and realistic future projections regarding progress and financial data as well as issues impacting performance; bring solution-oriented analysis, alternatives, and recommendations.
Support the development and manage a senior leadership team to support project workloads in a dynamic environment.
Effectively interface with customer representatives, regulators, Tallgrass staff and others as required.
Keep abreast of industry activities, technologies and trends ensuring that members of Executive Management are informed of developments having an impact on current and future project success in a timely manner.
Maintain a strong collaborative relationship with key internal and external stakeholders at all levels including the Executive team, Federal and State regulators, industry partners, owner representatives and public officials.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior, mid and senior-level Project Managers and prepare them to manage larger and more complex projects and to assume future leadership roles within our organization.
Lead efforts to develop and improve personnel and their performance, organizational processes, standards, and procedures.
Continually evaluate and modify project execution procedures and best practices to ensure successful planning, design, and execution.
Provide expertise in the areas of project execution, third party resources, execution optimization related to cost efficiency and speed to market.
Oversee and provide guidance to the project execution team related to scope, bid packages and contractual structures to be deployed with contractors and vendors.
Closely monitor status of ongoing projects to determine any deviations from schedule, cost forecast which may affect the success of projects.
Regularly review and approve the work products of the project managers assigned, including estimates, scopes of work, contracts, accruals, and forecasts.
Ensure regular and thorough review of all project forecasts for adequacy and prompt communication of meaningful changes to Project Sponsors and upper management.
Demonstrate and enforce the highest professional integrity, ethics, and safety discipline.
Demonstrate and reinforce a culture of regulatory compliance.
Foster a positive open work environment, systems approaches and disciplined execution of all assigned tasks.
Manage personnel related matters, including providing performance-based feedback, providing support, and completing administrative paperwork as needed.
Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully.
Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high level of performance.
Ensure deadlines are set and met.
Perform all job duties in accordance with Federal, State and Local Regulations, Tallgrass Policies and Procedures and with focus on Good Manufacturing Practices.
Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the public.
Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
Other daily, weekly, monthly, or special project duties as identified and defined.

Minimum requirements :


Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline.


Experience/Specific Knowledge:

Demonstrated superior leadership outcomes in the areas of leading self, leading others, and leading an organization.
Proven ability to drive positive change with continuous improvement.
Proven track record of successful, innovative leadership and delivery of performance results in complex operations, maintenance, or engineering activities.
Minimum of twenty (20) years’ direct work experience in engineering or project management of natural gas or hazardous liquid pipeline or facility projects including high-pressure gas and liquid transmission, metering, compression, pump station, storage, truck loading terminals, gathering, treating, and processing.
Must have full complement of project management skills including project scoping and estimating utilizing work breakdown structures, cost and schedule control, design and construction management, team building, resource planning, procurement and permitting.
Must be able to understand the needs of the business unit(s) for which development work is being performed.
Must possess basic understanding of midstream and downstream projects.
Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including but not limited to the ability to present ideas, proposals and results to business segment leaders and to internal and external customers.
Ability to organize and prioritize daily work, including tracking and managing large projects, and see projects to completion while maintaining strict confidentiality (as necessary).
Must possess general understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices and processes relate to the Pipeline business segment, associated business units and internal and external customers.
Understanding of basic economic analysis as it pertains to project justification.
Ability to identify and establish expectations in an employee/employer relationship (subordinate/manager).
Solid leadership, communication, motivation and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage projects(s) that will include working with individuals with varying disciplines, backgrounds and experience levels.
Working knowledge of applicable regulations and agencies such as DOT, OSHA and various state counterparts.
Familiarity with FERC, DOT, NEC, ASME, API, and ASTM and other specifications, standards, and recommended practices typical in the natural gas or hazardous liquid transportation industry.
Demonstrated success in managing large departmental budgets.

Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.


Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.

Field activities may include walking to and amidst work and/or construction sites, climbing in and out of trenches, working around heavy equipment, negotiating rough terrain, areas of loose rock and working in confined spaces.


Working Conditions:

Consistent overtime may be required.

Significant travel is expected, more than 50% on a consistent basis.
The majority of the typical workday is spent in an office environment, though this may change depending upon the location assignment. For work performed out of doors, weather conditions vary and can be extreme, depending upon location assignment and may include severe seasonal changes which are primarily influenced by geographic location.
Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
Must be able to communicate effectively with fellow workers and demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures.
Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.

The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
