Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

•

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Construction, Engineering, or a related field.

•

Minimum of 7 years of related work experience and 3 years supervisory experience.

•

Any equivalent combination of certifications, education, or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities for the position.

Licenses, Registration, and Certifications

•

Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification from Project Management Institute, or a Certified Construction Manager from Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), (ability to obtain within 18 months of hire).

•

Must be able to possess and maintain a valid Class 'R' Colorado driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record at time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

•

Project design and facility commissioning and startup experience, construction inspection and construction management experience, on multi-disciplinary water/wastewater projects.

•

Strong desire to assist Engineering and the Construction Management Section with continuous improvements

•

Passionate about working as a team and improving teamwork

•

Competencies include specific knowledge in EI&C, commissioning and startup of water treatment and pumping systems, design and construction processes, construction techniques, plans, specifications, material requirements.

•

Ability to perform calculations and develop spreadsheets relating to engineering disciplines and project management

•

experience using Excel

•

Ability to develop and interpret contracts, and coordinate their scheduling requirements,

•

Experience with project schedules and construction practices

•

Change orders and negotiations

•

Ability to organize, coordinate and supervise the work of others

Denver Water’s Engineering Division/Construction Management Section is currently seeking a qualified candidate to assist us as a Sr. Construction Project Manager (CPM) on complex capital projects that primarily consist of Electrical, Instrumentation and Control (EI&C) installations and facility commissioning and startup. EI&C expertise is required for this CPM position.

Position Summary

The Construction Project Sr. Manager is responsible for administering complex capital construction contracts with budgets larger than $10 million, acting as an agent for Denver Water. Deliver multiple capital projects using safe construction practices within the schedule and budget requirements of the awarded contracts. Lead a team of engineers, technical staff, and contractors from the award of contracts through project closeout.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•

Responsible for ensuring that contractor adheres to intent of contract documents and completes project in a timely manner through periodic monitoring of schedule and negotiated time changes.

•

Responsible for managing construction contracts and their associated work being performed by contractors. This includes administering contracts and the coordination of support work to accomplish the completion of these projects.

•

Manage and ensure proper field performance through personal observation, contractor contact, and monitoring of work quality. Accomplish liaison functions between departmental staff and a variety of outside officials and contractors. May supervise outside consultants.

•

Monitor, review and maintain the value of expenditures on a project and control, additional costs through careful administration of contracts.

•

Develop, negotiate, and settle field problems arising among departmental staff, contractors, various officials, and citizens. Recommend change orders which may include time and/or dollar changes to contract.

•

Inspect construction to determine contractor progress and adherence to intent of contract documents.

•

Serve as expert in interpreting construction aspects of engineering designs, specifications, and related contract documents in group and individual settings.

•

Oversee preparation of a variety of technical reports, correspondence, calculations, and see that project records are maintained.

•

Provide contractual risk management and promote adherence to safety policies.

•

Interpret engineering designs, specifications, and related contract documents in groups and individual settings.

•

Responsible for informing contractor representative in writing or verbally of contract interpretations if conflicts arise.

•

Perform related work as required.
