The Energy Engineer will assist the Engineering group with design work and fieldwork on varied building types. Design, develop, or evaluate energy-related projects or programs to reduce energy costs or improve energy efficiency during the designing, building, or remodeling stages of construction. May specialize in electrical systems; heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems; green buildings; lighting; air quality; or energy procurement. They also identify and recommend energy savings strategies to achieve more energy-efficient operation. The individual will be responsible for sizing ducts, performing HVAC calculations, and performing field surveys of existing conditions. This position also requires the candidate to be able to interact with clients, contractors, and architects.

Responsibilities and Duties:
•Conduct ASHRAEI, II, III energy audits to evaluate energy use, costs, or conservation measures Monitor industrial energy consumption or management.
•Monitor energy related design or construction issues, such as energy engineering, energy management, or sustainable design.
•Inspect or monitor energy systems, including heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) or daylighting systems to determine energy use or potential energy savings.
•Advise clients or colleagues on topics such as climate control systems, energy modeling, data logging, sustainable design, or energy auditing.
•Analyze, interpret, or create graphical representations of energy data, using engineering software.
•Identify energy savings opportunities and make recommendations to achieve more energy efficient operation.
•Analyze energy usage data.
•Advise customers and peers regarding green practices or environmental concerns.
•Manage the development, design, or construction of energy conservation projects to ensure acceptability of budgets and timelines, conformance to federal and state laws, or adherence to approved specifications.
•Perform energy modeling, measurement, verification, commissioning, or retro-commissioning.
•Conduct job-site observations, field inspections, or sub-metering to collect data for energy conservation analysis.
•Use of energy related software such as: AutoCAD, Revit, eQUEST, EQUIP or TREAT
•Review architectural, mechanical, or electrical plans and specifications to evaluate energy efficiency or determine economic, service, or engineering feasibility.
•Evaluate plans or specifications to determine technological or environmental implications.
•Evaluate construction design information such as detail and assembly drawings, design calculations, system layouts and sketches, orspecifications.
•Direct the work of contractors or staff in the implementation of energy management projects.
•Provide consultation to clients or other engineers on topics such as climate control systems, energy modeling, data logging, energy management control systems, lighting or daylighting design, sustainable design, and energy auditing.
•Advise others regarding green practices or environmental concerns.
•Train personnel or clients on topics such as energy management and operation and maintenance procedures.
•Promote awareness or use of alternative or renewable energy sources.
•Perform marketing activities.
•Consult with constructionor renovationclientsor other engineersontopicssuchas Leadershipin Energyand Environmental Design (LEED) or Green Buildings and environmental concerns.
•Survey and evaluate existing conditions to formulate a fully coordinated scope ofwork within code- compliant mechanical designs.
•Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
•Local travel is required within the tri-state area.
•Any other tasks deemed necessary/appropriate by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
•Master’s degree in engineering preferred (Mechanical, Electrical, Energy). Other engineering disciplines will be considered.
•Certifications considered: Certified Energy Manager (CEM); EMIT; Certified Energy Auditor (CEA); Existing Building Commissioning Professional (EBCP); Engineer in Training (EIT).
•3-5 years of experience conducting comprehensive energy audits and or HVAC- related design, operation and maintenance.
•Strong knowledge of ASHRAE Standards, NYC Energy Conservation Code, NYC Local Laws(C) – LL84, LL87, LL97 and Energy Code of New York State and other applicable standards
•In-depth understanding of building HVAC systems, familiarity with accompanying energy saving strategies and experience calculating the associated energy savings for commercial, institutional, or industrial systems
•Experience with the design and construction of HVAC-related energy efficiency or clean energy projects in diverse buildings that vary in age, size and use.
•Track record of meeting and exceeding project deadlines with good organizational and time management skills to simultaneously manage multiple responsibilities.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills needed for interaction with clients and coworkers.
•Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
•Fundamental understanding of building mechanical and electrical systems
•Knowledge of energy related software packages such as AutoCAD, eQUEST, EQUIP, TREAT is preferred
•Knowledge of technical and cost savings methodologies to include energy analysis and reporting
•Ability to effectively conduct in-field energy assessments
•Knowledge of state and utility incentives and rebates
•Strong project management skills (preferred but not required)
•Ability to train personnel on existing and current technologies (preferred but not required)
•Ability to ensure that projects are executed with compliance to specifications while making certain that client expectations are met (preferred but not required)
•Possess safety industry certifications such an OSHA 30Hrs
•Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Salary
$70,000 - $75,000 per year
