Job Description: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician
AI Engineers, Inc. (AIE) is seeking a technically proficient and detail-oriented Geographic Information System (GIS) Technician to support our surveying and engineering operations through geospatial data management, drafting, and office-based survey processing. This role is ideal for candidates with 7+ years of experience in GIS, CAD, and surveying, and who can support both GIS tasks and the Survey Department’s office workflows. This role also offers significant growth potential.
Key Responsibilities:
•Collect, process, and manage spatial data from land surveys, GPS, drone, and/or LiDAR sources.
•Convert and integrate data between GIS and CAD environments (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D and ArcGIS).
•Maintain and update GIS datasets related to asset management (utilities, infrastructure, survey control, boundaries, etc.).
•Support the survey department with office-based tasks, including drafting, preparing survey deliverables, and creating topographic surfaces.
•Assist in organizing and archiving survey data, records, and control points.
•Conduct spatial analysis to support engineering planning, site layout, and construction support.
•Ensure all data and drawings meet applicable standards and quality requirements.
•Collaborate closely with surveyors, CAD technicians, and engineers to meet project timelines.
Qualifications:
Required:
•Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in GIS, Geomatics, Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
•Proficiency with Esri ArcGIS Pro, AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Open Roads Designer.
•Familiarity with geospatial data types, survey workflows, and coordinate systems.
•Strong attention to detail and experience interpreting survey field notes, plans, and legal descriptions.
•Ability to perform basic survey computations and manage survey control data.
•Effective communication and organizational skills.
•Ability to obtain and keep a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card at all times.
Preferred:
•Experience with Python, JAVA and/or ModelBuilder for GIS automation.
•Experience in a professional land surveying or civil engineering office environment.
•Experience with point cloud registration and processing software (e.g., Leica Cyclone, AutoDesk ReCap, Pix4D).
•Familiarity with GNSS data post-processing and survey field equipment workflows.
•Understanding of state and local surveying standards and data management practices.
•Perform field computations, including coordinate geometry (COGO), traverse adjustments, and control network processing.
•Register point clouds from terrestrial or drone-based LiDAR and photogrammetry, and extract linework, surfaces, and features as needed.

•Primarily office-based with some potential for field support.
•Collaborative, team-oriented work environment interfacing with survey and engineering teams.
•Regular use of high-powered computers and geospatial software for data processing and drafting.
Salary and Benefits:
•Salary range: $80k-$120k per year, based on experience and qualifications.
