About This Job

The TWA Hotel Flight Energy Center is located at the iconic TWA Flight Center Complex at JFK Airport in New York. This on-site energy center features three natural gas fired Jenbacher engines, along with diesel-powered and battery backup systems, to support the facility's critical power needs. It also includes equipment dedicated to the heating and cooling systems that serve the entire hotel complex.


Opportunity Summary

The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and routine maintenance of the facility. This role includes directing the implementation of the Operating Plan and identifying opportunities for improvement or further development. A strong technical background is essential, with specific expertise in controls and Distributed Control System (DCS) operations. The O&M Supervisor ensures that plant operating conditions remain within optimal parameters at all times. This is a hands-on "working supervisor" position, requiring active involvement in the facility's day-to-day activities.

Your scope of responsibility as O&M Supervisor includes the following primary functions:

Oversee the monitoring, inspection, maintenance, and control of all production, auxiliary, and facility equipment to safeguard the Owner’s investment in machinery and infrastructure.
Lead, motivate, and supervise personnel to ensure duties are performed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
Conduct performance evaluations, implement recognition and disciplinary actions as appropriate, and apply effective management practices to strengthen team performance.
Assign daily tasks, oversee their execution, and assess the quality and timeliness of completed work.
Develop, implement, and maintain operating procedures to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of facility equipment.
Support equipment reliability through the application of preventive, predictive, scheduled, and corrective maintenance programs, with a strong focus on control systems and DCS operations.
Maintain accurate records of equipment performance, including operating hours, downtime, maintenance costs, availability, and workforce utilization. Provide regular reports to the Plant Manager.
Assist the Plant Manager in developing and managing the plant’s operating budget and strategic plan.
Participate in regulatory inspections and facility audits, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and protocols.
Apply advanced technical knowledge of controls and DCS systems to diagnose and resolve complex operational issues.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.

Conduct and support regular safety meetings (at least monthly).
Address safety in all group meetings.
Conduct inspections and observations by establishing a regular inspection process for the work area and a safety observation process for ongoing work.
Lead these activities in accordance with any rules, requirements, or guidance established within your business unit, group, or division.
Involve all NAES teammates in these activities.
Analyze results, write work orders, and provide training and education to eliminate hazards, address at-risk behavior, and meet company regulatory requirements.
Conduct safety observation tours of high-risk activities (e.g., confined space) to verify that employees are following safe practices, company procedures, and OSHA regulations.
Hold one-on-one sessions with direct reports to discuss safety issues, communicate expectations, and coach safe behaviors.
Respond to all safety-related incidents, including injuries, incidents, and near misses; write a report explaining what happened, identify the cause, and recommend corrective actions based on established business unit or division practices. Follow up as necessary to ensure corrective actions are taken.


Working Relationships

The O&M Supervisor reports to the Plant Manager and coordinates with plant personnel in regards to the safe and efficient operation of the TWA Hotel Flight Energy Center.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.


Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.


Work Schedule

The regular work schedule follows a Monday through Friday workweek during standard day shift hours. This position will occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status may also be required. Some travel will be involved to participate in Manager, Owner, User Group, or other offsite meetings.


Compensation

This position offers an annual base salary ranging from $130,000 to $140,000 and includes eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

A Bachelor's or Associate degree in engineering or a technical field such as power plant technology or an equivalent qualification is desired, as it provides a solid foundation for understanding the technical aspects of power plant operations and management. Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of education on a year for year basis.
Advanced expertise in power plant operations or a comparable industrial environment, including a minimum of two years in a supervisory role overseeing technical, supervisory, or administrative personnel.
Demonstrated leadership ability with a proven track record of motivating and effectively managing hourly personnel.
Strong technical knowledge, with experience in controls and Distributed Control System (DCS) operations highly desirable.
Solid understanding of maintenance planning and scheduling, with a focus on efficient resource allocation and timely task completion.
Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions quickly.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) for data analysis, reporting, and communication.
Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and maintain a smooth workflow.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, supporting effective collaboration with team members, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license, and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
