About the job

CORE Electric Cooperative is seeking a Project Manager II or Project Manager III to join our Engineering Department, reporting to the System Improvement Manager, located in our Sedalia office. This individual will manage projects and coordinate activities related to transmission, substation, and distribution. The Project Manager will collaborate with the consulting engineer, CORE’s Engineering and Operations Departments, and contractors to schedule, inspect, and supervise projects. Additionally, they will represent CORE's interests in all aspects of their work and ensure compliance with current contract standards and specifications.

This is an Exempt onsite position at our Sedalia office, located at 5496 North U.S. Highway 85, Sedalia, CO 80135.

A Project Manager II will...

Responsible for managing engineering and construction activities for substations, transmission lines, distribution lines, facility relocation and other projects.

Practices cost control, monitors expenditures, reviews task orders, approves invoices and change orders, and provides monthly budget amendments for assigned projects.
Ensures projects are closed in accordance with procedures in place with GIS, Finance, Purchasing and Operations.
Supports the permitting and land acquisition activities. Must build relationships with the various entities, understanding and acknowledging changes to the utility accommodation codes and advocating for CORE when changes are proposed to existing codes.
Prepares and oversees contracts and manages schedules with independent contractors, consultants, surveyors, tree trimmers, reclamation firms, and other vendors.
Prepares bid documents, participates in pre-bid meetings, evaluate proposals and provide award recommendations for various engineering and construction contracts.
Supports the permitting and land acquisition activities. Must build relationships with the various entities, understanding and acknowledging changes to the utility accommodation codes and advocating for CORE when changes are proposed to existing codes.
Participates with developing, maintaining and updating department procedures, project design criteria and RFP documents.
Mentors other Project Managers and interns.


A Project Manager III will...

Practice cost control and monitor expenditures, approve invoices, and change orders, and manage project scopes and schedules.
Ensure projects are closed in accordance with procedures in place with GIS, Finance, Purchasing and Operations.
Participate in reviewing project designs, studies, submittals, contract award evaluations and material requirements for all projects. Including review for compliance with NESC, RUS and CORE’s standards and procedures.
Prepare bid documents, participate in pre-bid meetings, evaluate proposals, and provide award recommendations for various engineering and construction contracts.
Prepare and oversee contracts with independent contractors, such as consultants, electrical contractors, surveyors, tree trimmers, reclamation firms, and other vendors.
Support the permitting and land acquisition activities. Must build relationships with the various entities, understanding and acknowledging changes to the utility accommodation codes and advocating for CORE when changes are proposed to existing codes.
Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating department procedures, project design criteria and RFP documents.
Mentor other Project Managers and interns.
Recommend and implement new or improved engineering standards, practices, or methods.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management, business, information technology or related field. Will consider candidates with equivalent work experience in place of formal educational requirements.
Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, Projects, PowerPoint and with general office equipment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Requires valid Colorado driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate, train, lead, and influence others.


Additional Qualifications for PM II:

Minimum 5 years of project management experience.


Additional Qualifications for PM III:

Minimum 10 years of project management experience.
A Colorado Professional Engineer’s license and PMP Certification required.
Experience providing work direction to diverse work teams, including Consultants.


Preferred Qualifications for Both Roles:

5 years of 115kV or higher transmission permitting, design and construction experience.
Ability to use PLS-CADD software to review Consultant models.
Experience with transmission design packages and the ability to review Consultant submittals, which would include:
Design criteria
Permitting documents
Construction access maps
Pole spotting and construction access
Steel pole procurement package
Framing drawings and Bill of Materials
Issued for Bid package

Salary Range for Project Manager II: $105,102 - $139,984.00 annually

Salary Range for Project Manager III: $131,664 - $175,552.00 annually

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

This job requires careful and strict mental and visual attention. The duties and tasks involve heavy work and may require the ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds. Physical demands also include walking or hiking on all types of terrain and driving a vehicle for extended periods of time. Working conditions are inside and outside including possible isolated work areas, call-out at all hours, and exposure to adverse weather conditions. Employee may be exposed to toxic materials including PCB.
