Job Summary

Orla Mining is developing and constructing the South Railroad Project in Elko County, Nevada for operational gold production. This role is essential to support the Exploration and Development teams with the best practices in geological data collection, processing, and interpretations. The Senior Geologist is responsible for examination of geological/geophysical data for the purposes of prospect evaluation, appraisal and development.

Duties

•

Conduct field reviews by generating accurate maps, stratigraphic correlation and structural cross-sections for reliable 3D modeling and characterization.

•

Maintain, analyze, synthesize, and interpret complex geological data.

•

Work closely and collaboratively with senior management in the development, exploration, and evaluation of existing projects.

•

Manage large exploration programs, with up to five drill rigs.

•

Develop drill targets and implement drill programs to reach an advance-shelve-drop decision on individual targets. Advance-shelve-drop decisions will be made through the peer review process.

•

Communicate with Drill Services regarding sample logistics.

•

Log reverse circulation (RC) drill chips and drill core.

•

Work with other intercompany groups, consultants and drill crews to ensure the safe execution of planned exploration activities.

•

Direct and document field studies, 3D modeling and laboratory testing.

•

Carry out detailed interpretation of all geological, geochemical, and geophysical data.

•

Design, supervise and conduct geological modeling and studies through systematic evaluation to reduce risk and uncertainty.

•

Conduct field reviews by generating accurate maps, stratigraphic correlation and structural cross-sections for reliable 3D modeling and characterization.

•

Plan, design and supervise 2D/3D geophysical data acquisition, processing/reprocessing and monitor work progress in order to get the best quality data.

•

Collect rock or soil samples in the field

•

Interpret field data to create cross-sections and long-sections.

Qualifications

•

Bachelor's degree in geological sciences or related field. Master's degree preferred.

•

Greater than 8 years of experience in exploration, including geological logging (RC and core).

•

Greater than 5 years of experience in field mapping required.

•

Knowledge of database and modeling software preferred.

•

Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid driver license with a clean driving record.

•

Must be authorized to work in the United States.

•

Ability to sit, stand, climb stairs, walk over uneven ground for long distances, and withstand extreme hot and cold temperatures.

•

Ability to use hand tools and controls on forklifts, pallet jacks, and core saws.

•

Manual dexterity to operate a computer and peripherals.

•

Ability to bend, twist, lift and carry up to 60 pounds.

•

Ability to drive extended distances over paved and dirt roads.

•

Ability to see and hear warning signs and signals, signs and equipment.
