Tool Design Manufacturing Engineer
Role Purpose: Conduct engineering project assignments to develop new tooling, modifications and alterations of existing tooling, fixtures, gauging, jigs, mechanisms, and attachments used in the manufacture of Company products. Support and Drive Plant Engineering activities with focus on Continuous Improvement for Compacting, Sintering and Forging. Performs tasks related to manufacturing systems development, improvements, and troubleshooting as related to equipment and tooling with the emphasis on advanced technology and techniques.
Role Reports to: Engineering Manager
Key Responsibilities:
•Evaluating customer design to determine feasibility of tooling design for manufacturability.
•Research and develop original design concepts, material and tolerance specifications, and cost estimates.
•Submit tool designs to tooling providers for cost estimations; issue and track requisitions and provide engineering assistance during initial tool tryout.
•Expedite tooling projects.
•Determine equipment needed to advance technology, techniques, and processes.
•Stay abreast of new developments in the field of tooling, applications and methods, and powder metal trends.
•Facilitate Engineering Change Requests as required.
•Equipment and plant layout drawings and details as required.
•Support manufacturing engineering group, as needed. Ex. Kaizan events, Lean Events, Safety Issues and launch activities, etc.
•Operating and maintaining the document control.
•Utilize Team Center to maintain control of prints and related documents.
•Meet with equipment manufacturers, sub-contractors and tooling service firms as needed.
•Inventory control and interaction with all outside tooling and related vendors.
•Determine, review, and approve tooling changes including materials, heat treatment, and coatings.
•Improve tooling performance and cost through design and testing techniques.
•Design, analyze and interpret data and data collection to support change and improvements related to process and product capability.
•Accountable for completion of tool designs that meet specifications, timeframe and budget.
•Foster a positive labor relations environment. Direct, supervise and coordinate all tool room employees.
•Utilize skills, knowledge, abilities, experience, staff hours, machines, and tools to most economical advantage.
•Maintain and train a skilled, flexible and efficient work force
•Provide progress reports; maintain records and files pertinent to this function.
•Assist other departments in manufacturing processes as it relates to tool design.

Formal qualifications required:
4-year degree in Engineering (prefer Mechanical Engineering); or equivalent experience, preferably powdered metal tooling or set-up experience. Experience in Unigraphics and AutoCad is required. Prior experience with automotive-related quality processes, Inventor and Team Center is desirable.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 - $89,000.00 per year
